Neither if it meant more customization for our current races.

Hrothgar, personally. I'll admit I don't have the nostalgia/affection/etc for Viera, but also in terms of design the majority of the races are all fairly human, so I appreciate the different sort of variety hrothgar provide. I would've loved for a full M/F Hrothgar set, under the hope that the ladies would have been beefy and also have proper big cat faces.
Hrothgar. Hands down. I'm very excited for it.
I'd rather we not have to choose. The idea of us only being able to have one instead of both is unnerving. And I also lay that on SE for making two one-gender races in the first place.
For playing - male Vieras in case them looking like their HW concept or how Yoshida described them. Big bulky men aren't my cup of tea. But if there existed female Hroths... eh... /sigh
As available option? Both tbh, because they please different auditory. mVieras (again, in case of HW concept) fill niche "elegant, fierce, handsome" somewhere between Elezens, Auri and Miqo'te probably taking best parts of them (like fViera do right now). And looking and male Miqo'te populairty, they could be very popular as well. Hroths fill more Roe niche cause of their size, but also beastful one, which we didn't really have before, but now we don't have beasful females. So really... if it's ever will be possible, I would like to see both races in "complete shape", if I can name it like this.
Rather have hrothgar not interested in bunny boys either.
Male Viera, I've wanted to see one since 2006 but hopefully we'll have both down the line - I'm crossing my fingers.
I'd have preferred a fully fleshed out Hrothgar race over Viera honestly, but I've been wanting a proper beast race for ages now.
This is my thoughts as well, if it was a legitimate option. The nice part about everybody getting new face types, accents, hairstyles, etc. would be that it's new features everybody can utilize on their existing characters and not only just something new for the subset that are willing to jump ship to the new race(s).
But since this particular question is either/or, I'd rather have Hrothgar. Viera are just another 90%-mostly Hyur blessed with long hair options with different ears. Pretty sure even the devs themselves (or at least Yoshi-P) said as much which is why they wanted to add beastly.
It really is a tough a decision. I had to really think about it before replying to this thread based on the options given, which is essentially what Yoshi and the devs were challenged with. From my own perspective I know that the demand for the Viera was quite high, and I think there would be a lesser amount of people upset that there is no beastly race opposed to no male Viera.
However, I also have to take into account that the culture in Japan is much different than it is here in the west. I don't speak Japanese so I don't know what kind of homogenous feedback they have been receiving from their DCs close to home base other than the few kind enough to spend their time translating some of the things being said which is far fewer than what I read day to day here. From what I have read though, I have come to the understanding that they are less upset than the English speaking playerbase.
It is easy for me to say that based on the player demand here in the west, it would only make sense that they forego the beastly race option in favor of the male Viera, but there is just too much that I don't know for certain, and feedback they see that I don't. My own personal opinion is that we already have so many 'pretty' players both female and male, and see a need for more variety in this regard. This leads me to the question of would players still accept male Viera if they weren't pretty, and instead more beastly like the Hrothgar? Where at best, players could only make them dapper like the recent pic we got with the Hrothgar in glasses, and not pretty like their female counterparts?
