I mean, this is the game where we only half-jokingly claim that 'glamour is the true endgame'. Literally every reward for clearing content in the game is either a cosmetic item or currency to buy a cosmetic item; how is it hard to wrap your mind around someone being upset over something cosmetic?

And it's not even the fact of the matter, so much as the blatant disrespect for the interests of a good chunk of the community that this decision implies. I think most of us would have been okay with getting male and female Viera, or male and female Hrothgar, even if it wasn't the race we personally desired for ourselves. However, there has been a large and outspoken push against genderlocking in this game, which SE cannot claim not to be aware of, as they have responded to it in the past and even made changes to the game because of it. For them to blithely go ahead and genderlock entire races and then pretend they're surprised when people are unhappy about it is dishonest and insulting, and the way they spaced out their announcements was clearly intended to mislead people just long enough so that they would no longer be able to cancel their preorders.

It's easy to say 'how can this one little thing bother you so much' if you're happy or indifferent to the result, and have been happy or indifferent to SE's decisions regarding glamour in the past, but for those of us who have been wrestling with these issues for years at this point, this is a pretty hard slap in the face when we thought we'd finally gotten through to them.
