Had a Monastery run last night that had 2 tanks constantly taunting off one another, fighting for the MT spot, both refusing to back down the entire run. Also, with how many were dying, it seemed like most of the DPS and a couple of healers were new as well. I didn't know many of those mechanics repeated so often >_<
O BOI.EDIT: WOW. A Mentor Roulette to bypass the near hard-enrage for Deathgaze Hollow in Patch 4.57.
76-minute in-progress Aery. They were at Nidhogg (of course).
I don’t even know what happened. But something happened. Because the tank was shouting mechanics in the chat the minute I zoned in. I’m guessing that people weren’t killing the Sable Price...or the adds, because we almost hit Nidhogg’s ultimate with one of them still alive. And I actually had to Cure II Estinien.
That takes the cake for tonight, I think.
That definitely takes the cake. I mean Aery. Really?
I had some pretty bad runs in Aery and we spent countless tries on Nidhogg until everyone finally got it right, but 76min timer. Jesus.
Even with waiting for replacements, spending that much time in that dungeon is crazy.
I think my record was Keeper of the Lake, zoned in right before Midgardsomr and they had already spent a bit over an hour there.
Once the fight started, it was easy to see why: people constantly got hit by stuff and I almost solo'd the add for the barrier against his ultimate. From what the dps told me it was their 14th try. 14 tries and still nobody seemed to have learned a thing. Two more wipes after I joined and explained everything, almost ran out of mp with everything on cooldown during those failed tries.
I don't know why you reminded me of this, but I'm now remembering the time my party wiped on Midgardsomr because we killed the bird too fast and activated the bubble shield thingy before the ground turned blue from the AOE. The shield has a fixed timer, and if the shield disappears before Midgardsomr casts the AOE, the party wipes.
ah yes, back in the day where a lot of people just active the device immediately, surprisingly some people (granted with beansprout icon) still doing it.
on the other hand, i see many healer still doing mistake not to heal the person they just revive. i was tank and die because healer cant keep up with mobs, he res me, i live again and immediately draw the mobs aggro, only to realized he didn't heal me, just leave me hanging with the post res HP, then i die again.
best part? healer ask me why i die again after he res me... lol

Device clickable - INSTANT BUTTON MASH - oh shit, shield expired. Never fails to amuse me.
And I've seen the raising but not healing a lot in 8man.
Fellow healer raises someone and... just leaves them hanging. There's stuff going on. Stuff they may or may not be able to avoid and most people who need a raise aren't the quickest on their feet anyway, all the more reason to heal them right away.
Why I died again? Well idk... maybe because I've been getting trounced by mobs while only having 20% hp to start with?!
It's the reason I usually wait a little bit until I see a heal coming (if I don't have any selfheal/ pot ready) before drawing aggro again. Most of the time, one of the dps gets their face munched off before they beeline for the healer. I'm okay with that. Still better than the tank floor-tanking again, the healer having wasted precious mp and gcds on a useless ress and the mobs still running rampart.
So a little context here, I have been playing ffxiv for quite some time now (about a year and a half) and I have this main account, where I've already maxed everything out in level and ilvl. So being bored, I decided to create an alt to level stuff again.
I usually go for the loot drops in dungeons, while not really bothering to purchase gear off vendors until I hit level 50 (I only do this on DPS classes on my alt), at which point I upgrade everything to ironworks gear. I run normal dungeons (from 15 to 50) and this way of leveling has always served me and my party well. I get on my bard today and enter the stone vigil at level 43. My ilvl is at 31 at this point and I'm wearing the mini aetheryte earrings for some bonus exp and stats. We get this roe DRK tank, who eyes me when the dungeon starts. We're all primed to go, but he doesn't move.
Then he hits me with this gem:
"youre using the lvl 32 bow you got from the last archer quest at lvl 43. Youre also wearing a lvl 16 hat. There are vendors everywhere and the game throws money at you, go buy gear."
He was basically telling me to piss off to buy gear, which I wasn't okay with. I assured him that I had done runs of the stone vigil on my BRD before and that my damage output and use of my support abilities never caused any issues for the rest of the party in my current gear. The healer leaves at this point, because the tank wasn't moving and the tank follows suit soon after. Leaving me with one last jab.
"Im going to leave too entirely bc of you. go buy gear. do not expect other ppl to carry you"
This dude hasn't even started the dungeon, and he already assumes the worst and feels like it's enough reason to act like it's that time of the month for him![]()
I agree that the run would be a lot more efficient with better gear, but honestly you can get by in any ARR dungeon for the most part with 1 person of each role as long as they're all well-equipped. If the other DPS had good gear, then they were just being petty. Likely to "make a point."
Player
Oh, I most certainly agree with that sentiment. It's just the way he brought it up at the start of the dungeon, without even pulling the first pack of mobs didn't sit well with me. To me, there's a big difference between having severely underleveled gear, which makes makes you drop with 2 simple hits and having one piece of gear, which is under leveled while everything else is close to the level of the dungeon. He kinda made it sound like I would be a liability throughout the dungeon, when I know for a fact that the opposite is true. I had done multiple runs of the stone vigil before that, and while my numbers were a little lower than the other DPS it wasn't by a disproportionate amount. I'm generally good about keeping my song rotations and cross role abilities up as well.I agree that the run would be a lot more efficient with better gear, but honestly you can get by in any ARR dungeon for the most part with 1 person of each role as long as they're all well-equipped. All in all, I just don't get the elitist attitude that he put on display when the dungeon is a level 41 dungeon.
