Well they do need to try to advise. So a couple of wipes at least imo. Not ditch prior to trying. The person I was responding to was taking it beyond that, that mentors are obligated to stay until vote abandon or timed out. I pointed out the rules for being a mentor don't support that entitlement and the latter has lead to some simply bowing out to avoid issues (and yes, some do it to simply avoid the punishment and queue again faster than 30 minutes).
To be fair, when you're queueing for EX trials, you shouldn't need advice nor should you be going in completely blind, though, yes, I agree, auto-dropping shouldn't be happening. You should be going in hoping for a clear. PF can also be used for that, though....
Eh. I don’t know. Seen players who prepared for the content and still needed assistance because the videos and guides don’t always work for folks in terms of learning. Seen players watch the video and bang out the fight. Then i’ve Seen players that the videos did nothing and a couple of tries and they getting it. Personally, I get an idea from watching the video, but it takes doing it to truly understand it and get it for me. People learn differently.
People learn differently, but if they aren't willing to at least put in a hint of effort do do anything on their own they aren't worth the resources, time, or consideration to teach.Eh. I don’t know. Harsh, but that's the way it is in 50/60/70 endgame content.
Wearing a burger king crown doesn't magically waive that requirement for anyone, in fact it makes it more important to teach people to teach themselves.

Dude, queueing up in a duty finder is attempting to learn. They need to practice the content. No one is saying they should be carried though, but Mentor’s are there to offer advice if asked. Sorry you don’t like that then don’t be a mentor.People learn differently, but if they aren't willing to at least put in a hint of effort do do anything on their own they aren't worth the resources, time, or consideration to teach.

Yeah, that's why I impart the valuable advice to only do endgame (50/60) content through party finder before I withdraw and the party potentially collapses.
That's the advice, that's the lesson. Duty complete.
Or if you want a clear party you go to party finder so you can specifically get people that have cleared. That’s the advice, that’s the lesson. Duty Complete. Oh look that goes both ways. Come man stop with the elitist crap. Both ways are options and valid.

In Japan people learn through party finder and only queue up in duty finder to run things they already know how to clear. Based on this, would you not say that NA is using it incorrectly?
Actually, everyone is doing it wrong than since people are supposed to get together in a guild to tackle hard content, but that really isn't the truth for all people, is it?
I find it pretty easy to poke and prod at the subject given how in-game system availability often shapes the way a community works long term. People will always take the path that requires the least amount of setup work when it comes to getting content done, even if it is a flawed idea to begin with. Duty-Finder is simply a system that acts as an unbiased event organizer, and party finder is the public game room of FFXIV much like how some Discord channels are big group organizing tools.
The issue with the mentors channel is not the fault of the mentors channel implementation. It's the fault of the FC system becoming a fragmented mess built upon the housing market and the community moving away from the Linkshell System due to not really understanding or wanting to take the time to set it up. In addition, a lot of people just want to log in and play content without having to mess around with guild management due to real life.
