More often than not, people are intentionally posting spoilers in general chats, no matter what game you play. And I'm finding it hard to believe so many would be "accidentally" posting them there.

If I see somebody doing so, I'll report it - up to GM to decide if it's punishable or not, I did my job and informed them of trouble-maker.

By your definition, I don't see having your party chat in an instance spammed for over 6 minutes with <se.1-9> as being reportable.

    No, it's not reportable.

Harassment entails proving someone was purposely doing something to harm, anger or otherwise disrupt someone's experience within the game. Simply stating a spoiler once does not equate irrefutable proof that it was done with those intentions and any investigations done would reflect that, especially if it was done out of no where. All a person has to say to a GM if contacted, "Oh, I thought I was in Discord, but I guess I was still in shout in XIV." That's what I mean by needing irrefutable proof - there needs to be something there to disprove even that. It sucks, but when staff have to investigate, they can only go off of what they have evidence of, not what they morally think is right or wrong.

Disruption would be removing players without probable cause (randomly kicking a person for no reason from a party or intentionally waiting for a certain place to remove someone for a disruptive reason - like tolerating someone until the lass boss of a dungeon and then removing them) to more technical matters like DDoSing servers because you don't like something being done in XIV.

It sucks you got something spoiled you'd prefer not to, but you have other means of trying to reduce your exposure (disabling shout, yell, alliance chats - you don't need to see what others are saying most of the time in Eureka as long as you can follow the train, know where your party is farming or just shout you need a party for Y). Especially reporting for something completely unrelated to the game, regardless of what players may think morally, is not something the XIV moderation team is obligated to enforce.

Let me be completely transparent here: I am not advocating spoiling of things and doing it with the intention of making others mad. I'm not even saying it's tolerable behavior. I am stating reporting for this does fall under misuse of reports.

On a completely ironic note: Your report would spoil it for whichever GM had to take it. I hope they weren't trying to avoid spoilers and/or saw it already.

Customer support ends up dealing with much worse than spoilers, but yes.

While it's possible to word spoilers in ways that might cause reasonable doubt on their intent, most aren't. It's pretty clear when an unprompted spoiler is meant to ruin that experience for other players. Plus the report itself might help tip the scales on a toxic account that's been building up minor offenses for too long already.

Gonna go shout "Darth Vader is Luke's father!" and see how long it takes to get banned.

That's quite ancient stuff tho, whilst Avengers: Endgame is currently airing on cinemas. :P

"Pretty clear" =/= irrefutable. When it comes to disciplinary action that could eventually lead up to permanent suspensions of an account (if enough infractions lead up it to), you need hard proof. There is a due process.

I've kind of always wondered why age of something matters. New people are always coming into franchises. I'm not sure why 'because it's old' gets a pass when it's still people revealing major plot-points to someone who might not know, but may just be getting into a franchise. Especially when there's no consensus on when it's "okay" to voice spoilers.

People will get all in a huff about movie spoilers in shout, but go "hey don't be a triggered special snowflake" when you say you're going to report someone for saying a slur or something. Funny.

The person reported would only get banned if they had a few other penalties on their account already. If it was a first-time offense they'd get a 24 hr temp ban at the absolute worst, but more than likely it would be a warning or caution. You can already get banned for using curse words that don't target anyone if you do it enough times.

Report away for any infractions you think are against the ToS. Chances are that player makes it a habit of doing such things. The only downside is the time required to fill out a report.
