Perhaps they should change the reward structure from wins to something else. Like the harder ones will reward more points than the easier ones and also unlike the easier the harder ones will reward you on attempts and time if you don't win (such that they're worth more to flounder around in than spam fast options, and high value "fast" points if for some reason everyone is a rock-star and wins right away). Devalue the easier ones and reward struggle lol.

Also it may increase the quality of a mentor if they let you run the mentor roulette without being a mentor (and if they add new "halls of intermediate/advanced" tutorial systems make that the requirement to get in, advanced being extreme tier teachings). So people can still get body count help but you turn on mentor because you want to be a greater help not because you want a mount.

Anyone who bows out as mentor should have crown and mount taken from them. Dont want to mentor? No rewards. How sweet it would be to have some selfish jerk lose all of that work. Delicious rage tears.

They need to make it so the mentor df can only be used by players who have cleared all content synced.. Those that took the time to learn each an every fight, not just brute(justice) your way across the land unsynced..

It would fix a lot of the trouble with the mentor mindset that we currently have. The "I never did this fight legit, so im not going to do it now." If your wanting to be a mentor you should learn any an all mechincs you can, most of them are all repeats an just renamed, so theres not even that many to learn.

There are no guidelines. That, perhaps, is the crux of the issue. Nothing is said beyond helping new players/adventurers, which isn't really relevant in the content that is being referred to as by the time someone has played enough to unlock EX Trials they aren't really going to be considered new.

The real problems are the Ex-Contests in the Roulette.

As someone who got my crown and opened up Mentor Roulette a few weeks ago, I like helping people especially in the novice-chat. But every time I dare to do Mentor Roulette I pray to RNG'sus not to give me an Ex-Primael because I have no idea what to do in it. I can't help people there, because I've never done one of the Level 50 Ex-Trials sync myself. Sure, I can kill every one of them with my Level 70 jobs unsync just fine, but sync? I just would be a burden to the group myself, with no plan and total at a loss. I would screw up and I would screw up bad. And I guess a lot of mentors who started with the game after Stormblood was released are the same like me, as we just never "needed" it to do sync and probably never did.

Thats when you take the bullet, watch a video, open up party finder and do 50 ex trails flagged sprouts to learn. you get to farm mounts, and do WT at the same time for some of them. Shoot you will probably get some hardcore raiders that will join just for the sheer mechanics itself. Mentors are there to teach but also to learn as well. Its a 2 way street when being a mentor.

Yes there are. When You click to become a mentor a window pops up stating what they expect.

Here are the main three I remember...

As a mentor you are expected to actively perform the following:

Provide gameplay advice for new adventurers and other players.
Be an exemplar for player etiquette.
Invite new players to the novice network and answer their queries.

I mean number two essentially covers any poor behavior on the mentor’s part. The expect you to be an example. Can’t really be an exemplar of player etiquette when your words and actions run counter to the concept by breaking the TOS. The rewards are for mentors that donate their time and fulfill the guidelines. Not just so some random player number X gets a cool shiny mount. You opt in to being mentor so you need to be a mentor. If a person didn’t read the pop up before they clicked accept that is on them.

I haven't run Mentor roulette for a long time but depending on the content it's usually a safe bet that someone would drop out or "disconnect". If it's a piece of content I'm familiar with and know it can be cleared pretty easily then I'll stick around. But if it's something like Thordan Ex synced to 60? Hard pass. I will just leave. Nothing personal against anyone, I just prefer to spend my time doing other things. I usually get guildhests when I queue for Mentor roulette though. That's better than something like Thordan Ex but...I would prefer something at least moderately exciting.

However, I guess players need SE to spell out every little detail. Also did you follow the link? On the pop up in nice red letters Mentor’s can be reported for not following the above.
