But then if it's been that long you'd think all those gear pieces the grand companies have you collect would have furthered their understanding of magitek? So is it current to Stormblood and Cid just happened to have his old clothes laying around? Will we see the gear referenced later? Or is it better to just think of it as a fever dream that has no internal consistency with the game itself? Likely the last one frankly for the reasons Iscah mentioned due to the tonal dissonance with the current storyline. It's probably better not to think of it too much honestly. I doubt the people in charge of the event put very much thought in the story implications it might have, so why should we?
The storyline of the event is a follows:
    2.0 storyline
Lightning event if you did it
    FFXV event

Anything within these events storyline are not canon to anything else in the game's lore you just have to stretch your sense of disbelief, I go with if i have done it as my character it's real to me alone ie i have the only Regalia in existence until an npc has it, never count pcs or everything is gone. (most immersion went out the window when they stopped trying to explain why everything can fly i'll give the turtle that they tried to explain it)

    Enjoyed it.

But the thing I'm most happy with is none of the event items are locked away in the Mog store. I was really worried they were going to put some of it behind a cash wall. So very glad they avoided temptation.

The general rule is that the level of a quest indicates where it is set in the overall storyline, so yes - this is post-ARR, pre-Heavensward, and Cid's appearance reflects that. (Or if you look at it another way, this quest is available to players who actually are at that point in the story, so it can't reference later events.)

An additional rule with optional quests is that they're only considered to have happened if you've done them, but that doesn't change when they are set.

An example I've mentioned a few times here - the Binding Coil quests. They're Lv50 and undoubtably take place during post-ARR, with mentions of Alphinaud organising the Crystal Braves. But if you don't unlock the quest, then when you get to post-Heavensward and Alisaie joins the group, she says you last met at the memorial service very early in the game - indicating that the events of the Binding Coil haven't happened, because they haven't for your character. But if you then go back and unlock the quest later, it's still set in post-ARR and the Alphinaud and Alisaie in that storyline are still from that point in time, with no awareness of anything that happened after it.

The Lv30-50 DRG quests are another good example, because no matter where you're up to in the MSQ and whatever Estinien's current status is, he'll still be in the DRG quests as his pre-Heavensward self.

I'm not sure what "gear pieces" you're thinking of though, other than aetherial gear from dungeons - which doesn't have anything to do with magitek. (There's a guy outside the entrance to Sastasha that explains it - something about gear being imprinted with the aether of the previous owner, which is why the stats are variable.)

I really wished I kept this in mind. I actually have separate glamours for my character based on whether the event taking place is in ARR, Heavensward, Post-Heavensward, and Stormblood, and I did most of this event in my Stormblood glamour before I stopped and thought about Cid's attire. >.<

The only song that I wished they would have included was the FF15 Chocobo song. It's so good. Oh well, I'm content.

Apologies this was a brain fart on my part, I meant to say magitek pieces (not in game so can't pull their exact name) but it was late and my brain was working on vapors. You collect pieces from the machines in the fate Noctis has you fight and deliver it to Ironwork employees in all the city states, which they stated earlier in the quest chain will be delivered to the grand companies for study. The pieces are turned in for orchestrion music from FFXV.

Edit: Still not awake sadly, lol, but I did mean to say thank you to everyone who clarified the timeline for me. I appreciate it!

Overall I enjoyed the event, but for a few glorious minutes my paladin had a movement skill. XD
Please square give paladin warp strike. (This is not a serious request.) XD

Even if we consider this story (or at least the "collecting otherworldly magitek") to be canon now, I wouldn't expect it to be referenced elsewhere. At best, the Ironworks have learned some new manufacturing techniques, but they don't need to specifically point that out later.

I think you're mistaken about it being delivered to the grand companies though - I checked the script. Cid asks you to salvage the magitek parts, and the other engineer says you can hande them in at Black Brush or to their "colleagues in the three city-states", who will pass them on to Cid. Those would be Ironworks employees, not the grand companies.

Also, it occurs to me that while Noctis managed to get home, we haven't dealt with whatever is sending foreign magitek and daemons into our dimension in the first place? It's established that Noctis may have been accidentally teleported here from a Niflheim base (the evil empire, I assume?) - maybe it was a once-off that warped a fixed number of MTs across, and we're just mopping them up, but we never really get any explanation for what's going on. Even if it does clearly belong in the "don't think too hard about it" basket.

Personally, I assume that the cause of the MT's and daemons coming to our world was thanks to Noctis being here and being the "Anchor" that Garuda mentions.

Thus with him returning back to Eos, he's no longer creating the link between the two worlds and thus the MT's and daemons (Also, Garuda) are no longer able to come into our world.

An indirect resolution, but one that makes sense.

Though, a shame it was never answered how/why Noctis came to our world to begin with...

Also, a missed opportunity for a Back to the Future reference in how he could have ended up returning to Eos >.>
