I was really let down by the photo.... come on SE, I expected some derpy selfies or something.

The rest was nice though, nothing I could complain about really. I only found it to be very short IMO.

OMG YES! I was hoping for a Noctis minion, but sadly we didn't get one.

As a huge fan of both FFXIV and FFXV this was all I could ask for. Besides the laggy fate it was awesome. The music, the cutscenes - the dialogs! It was so well done. Noct came off excactly how I remembered him and his promise to a special someone made me shed a tear.

Probably will have another run with FFXV now.

The tight timing on the Garuda battle made it more frustrating than it should have been - particularly as it was so far into the fight before you had to deal with it, and happened so quickly that it was hard to understand what I was doing wrong. Perhaps it would have worked better if there was a non-lethal version of the same mechanic earlier in the fight?

It was definitely satisfying to get hang of the main "dodge AoE, then warp-strike in" mechanic though. Especially getting the timing right so both of us are jumping in at the same time.

And I agree with the people who said Noctis's pose looks dreadful. It doesn't look like a "lazy slouch" to me. Having tried to copy it, it's an awkward position that you have to deliberately get into - knees forward, head leaning back beyond your centre of gravity - and takes effort to hold.

Not being an FFXV fan or keen on dressing my characters in casual clothing, its hard to be excited about the event rewards. Uglier versions of the Survival Slops and Survival Boots, a mismatched glove and a shirt with skulls-and-crossbones all over it (that kills any potential use for me). It feels too similar to the already-similar Cloud and Squall outfits, but I guess that says more about SE's overall variety in lead character design than their choice in what gear to put in this game.

And the car... I bought it, because it'd be silly not to for practical reasons, but it's only getting used if I actually need to transport people around. It looks so out-of-place in this setting.

Also the ending had the slightly awkward impression that he was going to run over the lady "waiting for him in the light".... not having any story familiarity, I assume she's not physically standing there, but still that's what it looks like.

Doing these "crossover with other worlds" events seems really awkward when they try to set it as a real event happening in the game's story, but then are simultaneously trying to run their own plot about there being multiple planes of reality with a different set of rules and implications.

Did they definitely rig it for FFXIV? Or are they possibly just using the FFXV model for that shot? It's isolated and hazy in the light.

But yes, more pretty dresses please.

I feel like the issue is the recognisability of a car (and motorbike). A Magitek armour is something unique and has a fantasy edge to it, but the car is more-or-less straight from our own modern world.

I will say, the car transformation for flying is kinda pretty impressive.

    This.
People quote other mounts as a reason why this is somehow ok to put in a fantasy mmo. Like saying the core identity of game has already been diluted by other disconnected items so another one won’t matter.
    That’s a good thing?
The car (and bike although less obtrusive) are ridiculous in this game.
What makes it even worse is the turning animations of the thing. People where spinning it around like some kids toy.
    Truly awful shoe in idea.

Just so you know, you can delete text out of a quoted post and just leave the bit you're actually replying to.

No, what I meant is that your immersion is shallow and your suspension of disbelief is weak. /s

Anyways I am sort of joking. Views on this are subjective and given Ironworks, Garlean and Allagan tech levels you would need a lot more to break my mind on the matter. I do guess that RP-ers have more issues with it? I only view quests and story as canon, players outside that are MMO background noise.

EDIT: then again I'm the kind of person that enjoys the new Eorzea DRIFTO memes with eurobeat undercuts so my opinion might be totally worthless.

From what I've seen it's causing less of a commotion than tomephones did back when the app was released, which thank god because that was an unending nightmare I don't care to witness any time soon. I think most people have just quietly accepted the immersion break for what it is, since the quest goes out of it's way to say that the car is unique in Eorzea and not something even the Garleans are capable of fully replicating.

For my part I'm more confused about when this little side quest takes place. It's Lv.50 capped and Cid is wearing his old ARR gear in all the cutscenes, so I expect it's before you go to Ishgard. But then if it's been that long you'd think all those gear pieces the grand companies have you collect would have furthered their understanding of magitek? So is it current to Stormblood and Cid just happened to have his old clothes laying around? Will we see the gear referenced later? Or is it better to just think of it as a fever dream that has no internal consistency with the game itself? Likely the last one frankly for the reasons Iscah mentioned due to the tonal dissonance with the current storyline. It's probably better not to think of it too much honestly. I doubt the people in charge of the event put very much thought in the story implications it might have, so why should we?
