Absolutely, it does make little sense and to be honest it took me for a whirl too, but is it really that strange compared to everything else that happens in the game?

Stretching it from "that's a bit odd" to "OMG racism" is what bothers me, especially when you are painting a whole group of hard-working intelligent people (that you don't know personally and for all you know could be the least racist people on this planet) as racist is absurdist and way more offensive than anything being implied in the game to begin with.

I feel like someone who lived in ala mhigo their whole lives could easily be darker skinned than someone who left it when they were 5 years old.

Edit: Also, do we know who her mother is? Do we know if Lyse is highlander or midlander and how their skins pigment? I feel like there's enough unknowns that it's kind of silly to make a big deal about the skin color differences.

Well, we know she lived there till she was grown enough to wear that red outfit Lyse puts on at the end of Stormblood. So at least young adulthood?

"Yda" and Minfilia were both in 1.X, which didn't have female Highlander models. There isn't much to it.

That explains their models sure, and I can get them not wanting to swap to female highlander models to avoid confusing people that played 1.0. But I don't think that really explains the odd difference in skin color between Lyse and her father.

Now it doesn't really bother me that they're so different. Especially when we don't know what her mom looked like. But you can make dark skinned midlanders and fair skinned highlanders so I don't think this is about the models not being in 1.0 for female highlanders.
