No one can blame the OP about wanting to leave the game for that reason. Housing is a big part of any MMO and that part of FFXIV is not accessible for a lot of players. It's not a little fix there and there which will change that fact.
And people should stop being blind fanboys like they always do by making fun of those who have real good points and critics towards the game. They are people who love(d) the game and who want it to be better.

The housing system is not just not perfect, it's just terrible and awful.

Oh yeah, it is entirely understandable for them to quit if this is a major thing for them. But to be completely fair they chose a bad time to try and get a house. Once the auto demos start back up and after some time has passed some houses should open up. For the moment though they are few and far between.

For most servers that's probably true (a house here and there) but I would add even when things open up it'll not be a choosers market, in that I mean it's unlikely you'll be swimming in nice plot locations or sizes you wanted.

Unless you're on a tiny server you'll most likely have to compromise. Like if you wanted X zone, Y size, or Z position - each desire making the chance go from "unlikely" to "LOL Sure buddy".

I had a large at one time on Zalera, but that server was a ghost town for the longest time, so I went to Gilgamesh to see more faces and find more teams and such, but now I can't find a house and it seems my chances of getting even a small are slim. Why must we choose population or a house? I don't like that.
As for apartments, I don't want a single-room box in the wall where I can't even use any outdoor items. Literally one-third the space of a small. Same with FC rooms, but those are worse since it feels a lot less personal and what if you leave the FC?

Can't we just add more plots?

I'm not trying to whine, but I can understand the OP's frustration. It's an entire portion of the game that is being denied because of availability.

P.S. I really do wish they'd shorten that dang "invisible" timer. People have lives, you know. And what about making the plot glow green when there's still a "long" time left then orange and finally red when it's getting close for the timer to be up?

Why must we choose? Because SE needs servers to be stable, so they need people to not all clump up on one or two super large servers. Not to mention that since they have to have the same number of wards for all servers it would be a huge waste of resources.

Apartments/ FC rooms are half the size of a small, and that's only because they added the basement a million years ago. FC rooms usually feel really personal to me, unless they're designed to be an office or library or whatever, in which case they shouldn't feel super personal. They are what you make them. And while it's super annoying to find space for 200 housing items, if I want to leave an FC bad enough that I'm willing to tear down my room, you better believe I will find space for that stuff!

You say you're being denied housing, but there aren't any servers where apartments aren't available, and while I understand you want the outdoor stuff too, that's not currently an option for apartments. But that doesn't make apartments any less a housing option.

I completely agree about shortening the RNG timer. It's not good to sit there spamming a placard for like 5-6 hours, much less the over 24 hours that some plots have taken to become available. The color option you suggested while nice in theory goes against what people wanted before and what they're trying to accomplish with the timers. It would be nice though if there was some sort of indication that the timer was over for a plot.

so after playing this game on/off for YEARS i decided last week to subscribe again and try it out to see if the housing situation has improved at all......it hasn't. STILL the same over crowded situation.

i'm guessing that NO ONE who has anything to do with making decisions for this game ever reads these forums. but anyways. you all are KILLING this game.

If one player has something and I do not, not because he worked for it, or won it, or earned it, but because he was in the right place at the right time, does that not make it a tad unfair? Getting a house shouldn't feel like winning the lottery. And even the apartments are limited in number, right? Why must we have a resource e war in a video game?

Not denying your points or anything. I get it. You do have something, maybe. But don't we all pay the same fee?

The original plan for housing was FC only and so that's what it was designed around. Then the decision was made to expand it to personal ownership and that's where the availability problem began. The ward system as is simply doesn't work considering the size of the player population.

It's why many of us want to see a better instanced system implemented. An instance system would do a far better job of accommodating all players who want to own a house (not all do).

As for apartments, SE has said they could easily expand the number of apartments available per ward if there was a need to do so. So far, there hasn't been need since they were introduced. Players on Balmung have said they have available apartments even there. But those small apartments will not be a satisfying solution to everyone who wants to own a house because of the size. Expanding apartment options to include interiors equivalent in size to those we get with houses would be a big step in the right direction that really shouldn't be difficult for SE to implement since house interiors are already instanced.

I'm in Ragnarok and there's nothing available, and every time a small pops up there's a legion of zombie botters spamming the placard. Absolutely no chance for whoever half honest that plays this game legit.

Pretty sure the NA servers had a pause going on which will be over the end of april, which will only start the timers to 45 days. Just transfer in other case. EU servers have free slots here and there especially in goblet. If you get back I suggest you get a small plot there so you can easily relocate to a bigger plot whenever you see one. Buut again you gotta wait till next month.
