I'm sorry Theodric i think done a bit too much today and it was just your comment that took the brunt and for that i apologize i should've just left alone and gone done something else.I'll confess, I'm a little confused as to why I'm being singled out. I haven't portrayed my opinion as more valuable. I've simply done what others have also done in regards to reinforcing my own personal preferences. I'd point out that there's likely an element of bias at play since if your issue was that particular act in general, you'd be calling out multiple posters rather than focusing on a single individual. There's no 'aggression' on my end - and I've been perfectly civil. At the end of the day, it's a fictional race in a fictional game - hardly something to get worked up over.
As for the rest of your post, I disagree that Viera men would be 'like the women'. I'd expect them to have something resembling an androgynous or feminine base face, though the rest would very likely be distinctly masculine.
As I've said many times throughout the thread, I consider masculinity to be a broad spectrum ranging from classically handsome to ruggedly handsome. I don't particularly care where on the scale they exist, so long as they can be designed to resemble men.
Guy butt is best butt <3
This is lovely! I wouldn't mind either build, but I like B's height a little more :>Hello! Just wanted to post something here.
Hhhmmm kinda dissapointed to see "no male viera / female hrothgar" announced. I hope SE will add them at some point in the next expansion (not release date because they have a looot of work polishing the current versions but .. in a future patch maybe). So, reading some post of this thread I came up with two "versions". Personally I like the first one (A), but I don't dislike the other one either. Someone posted the "Male Omega image" and , yep I can imagine them being like that. I'm temped to do another one of the female hrothgar too. Sooo... yep, I would like to see them in-game but, no rush.
Oh, here's a better resolution picture if you want: https://twitter.com/RedSinistra/stat...64814083371010
You seem to be twisting my words. I'm not advocating for 'more of the same' and I was specifically responding to a request to define what I considered to be classically handsome. I suspect that you missed the part where I specifically stated that they should have a variety of base faces ranging from androgynous to classically handsome to account for all tastes. Easily done given how fast the thread is moving!
That aside, even if you wish to accuse me of pushing for 'more of the same' I note that you're silent on that point when it comes to the requests made for them to be similar to Miqo'te or Elezen.
It's fine, there's no hard feelings!
Because it wouldn't be the same as miqo'te. They're still athletic and fit.
Elezen on the other hand is a disaster. If there's one body type we need more of, at least in my opinion, that would be a slim body type.
Like I said, there's a reason you don't see a lot of elezen running around. This is a chance for viera to do what elezen failed at.
Elezen doesn't do the elegant/slim/beautiful/mysterious/mystical woodland trope justice.
Again, if they're somewhere between an Elezen and an Au Ra, and SE resolves the "height" thing by simply allowing a wider scale than usual - particularly on the minimum end - but without making them shorter than the women, I think I'll be very pleased, provided they don't inherit the Elezen's stiffness.
I think Elezen are already in the "toned" category and some people probably won't like that, but whatever. SE could always give the race a muscle tone slider.

When the game's story becomes self-aware:
For the high heavens, enough of this. I will remind that, when one dislikes something, they tend to see it more often. Hence, when one dislikes a more androgynous look, they see it everywhere and minimize the other options around; it's not that "most" players wanting male Viera want them feminine or androgynous, there's been an about equal amount of fan art shared with feminine and masculine designs. It's the same discussion I had before 4.0 was even revealed about the abundance of Ivalice references in XIV: you dislike them, you see them and roll your eyes thinking "great, another one" without realizing that there's also 6, 8, 9, and more in-game.
And there are some great problems over the definitions in here: clasically handsome resembles the Prince Valiant, the Knight of the Round Table, and Highlander Men are more than capable of it (In fact, that Highlander in particular could be classically handsome if you remove the stubble, and even if not, my ex-boyfriend uses the exact same model except his is silver or pink, and he's certainly not "rugged"); Ruggedly handsome is not just a beard and some muscles (because in the classical sense, facial hair and a proper musculature was indeed a sign of masculinity, like in a lot of Grecorroman artwork, not to mention Cyrus the Great): it's rougher features, battle scars, a man getting his hands dirty, in fact, a "classically handsome" man could very well be "rugged" with a few years working in a farm, or the same knight in shining armor after a few duels. And even then, I have problems with it because masculinity does not solely not solely go from "classical" to "rugged" since there's also the skinny geek who is still very much a man, the heavy set powerlifter with a belly, even the dancer with long hair can be "masculine."
And yes, sorry if it seems I'm calling Theodric out specifically (I'm not, I swear), because I do greatly respect you, but I will call out when someone is using personal definitions that can apply to a broader spectrum then singling it down further, that's a sharpshooter fallacy. Partly because the whole point goes to other posters criticizing the "lack" of a certain art that appeals to them, when we can generally agree that the devs will do what THEY think is best, we've even reached the compromise of pushing for a broader height(and if possible, muscle) slider.
Now can we put this to rest and focus on having male Viera (and female Hrothgar) in the first place?
Edit:Very much agreed![]()
If i need to show my support so !
I want mâle Viera, female Horthgar !
And Fat miqo'te ! That's it !
If they were feeling particularly brave, they could use it as testing grounds for allowing body type customisation, but I think it's one commitment they don't want to make just yet, and perhaps never, because whilst they're exploring further customisation options, they called out varying body types for player characters as a design bugbear in terms of the workload it'd generate. So at most we'd probably just see a muscle tone slider, if that. I consider the muscle tone slider to be one which should be extended to all races regardless, with something else unique added for Hyur/Roes. Thus why I keep reiterating the use of sliders to get around the issue of varying expectations as to their size - within reason. And yes, sorry if it seems I'm calling Theodric out specifically (I'm not, I swear), because I do greatly respect you, but I will call out when someone is using personal definitions that can apply to a broader spectrum then singling it down further, that's a sharpshooter fallacy.
