It is weird if you spend any time looking at it. I realized what my character is wearing now does it. (lvl 60 summoner quest set) the foot is flattened but the leg is definitely shortened. Devs probably expect that most players aren't going to look too closely or spend a lot of time switching to see the difference. I said most.

Technically speaking...they can just do...nothing...Viera are digitigrade, but that only means that they tend to walk with their entire balance on the elongated (compared to humans) toes. Other than the distances between the joints, there's really not much biological differences. And seeing as the Viera's have only slightly longer feet than humans, if they stood on them flat (possible in the same way that humans can stand on their toes alone)...you wouldn't see much of a difference.

Their biology as far as lore goes actually allows flat locomotion. Look here and here. Then there's this one that does have heightened heels...but not significantly.

In reality, rabbits probably could walk on flat feet too. They can certainly stand on flat feet. However, their legs are made for jumping, and even humans jump off of their toes. Viera on the other hand have legs made for walking, not hopping. There is no problem with them walking in the same shoes as humans do. It's just something that I reckon Viera wanting to avoid since the advantages of their feet, faster and quieter movement and better jumping ability, are compromised. Rather, are limited to what they are for humans.

I realise that Viera probably *can* walk flat-footed, but my issue is with the game models and what that's going to do to the apparent proportions of their legs. It's already a bit odd when heeled shoes change characters' leg length by maybe two inches; Viera would be more like 4-6 inches, and most likely proportioned so they look 'right' when wearing their default high heels. Change that to flat feet, and their legs get that much longer.

I don't even know why "floating" would be necessary... just adjust the character model down the z-axis a few pixels... done, problem solved.

I honestly expected them to fix this in Stormblood when they added swimming. Swimming in sandals is... strange. But their excuses for this are pretty flimsy.

Flat foot model (already exists), move character model down the z-axis a little, done. Perfect collision with the ground isn't even super necessary, just get it close enough.

ever notice that regardless of what heels you have on youll stay the same height? im pretty sure the only way to fix this would actually be to kind of extend the bottom of the feet to the ground plane. were gonna have some very fat feet

Is there any particular reason why they require character models to remain the same height irregardless of chosen footwear? Meaning they have to turn us into Stretch Armstrong with rubber legs >.>

That said, while bare foots would be cool without the sandals... I'd rather they made not trash foots models first >.>

There's a bunch of cool looking sandals and open toed shoes that are made awful by the horrible models for feet

The modding community seems to have no problems with bare feet from what I understand. Perhaps it's not that they can't but the work required potentially to have to be sure all the gear works with the bare foot changes.
