Actually HW and at some extent SB, are much better than ARR in all aspects. If anything I wish Yoshi-p will get replaced and someone new comes in and takes lead for 14 while yoshi goes off and does some magic on another game like when he first did ARR because since then HW and SB just feel like they are progressively getting worse with no new ideas, expansions are suppose to feel like they are expanding on the current game's content not feel like it's just a delete then copy/paste the same old formula.
I really don't think it's another MMO at this time. Yoshida has mentioned several times that he believes the FF XIV story to be around a 10 year arc. With ARR we technically are just finishing year 6 and so I think we'd have 2 more expansions of FFXIV at least, including ShadowBringers.
I thought the article mentioned that he was managing the division as well. As others have stated Yoshi has expressed interest in making a 'high fantasy' FF game and so it wouldn't shock me if this was the next mainline game in the series with a similar vain to FFIV and FFIX, which I would love personally.
XIV has a great base right now and so I'm not sure it makes the most sense for them yet to look at another MMO while XI still lives and XIV is thriving.
They mentioned pre-production is finished so I assume all the concept art and stuff is complete. I would love to get a sneak peak at what that looks like...![]()

Possibly... perhaps... probably. If this isn't legitimate news, they're opening themselves up to a security fraud case. April 1st is the start of the Japanese fiscal year, and Yoshida was promoted to the board of directors a year ago today. It's supposed to be a "new core title," which makes me think it's XVI if it's a Final Fantasy game.
Or Yoshida's favourite word of coy... "Maybe".
However, keep in mind that SE has been very industrious over the past few years in developing new stuff... for instance, one example is VisualWorks Character Prototype.
"After ten years, finally headed to Sharlayan... absolutely stoked"

There's one thing I find funny. All pictures about this I've seen so in articles far (except the FF7 ones) are from FF14 or have something from FF14 (like the airship in the picture on the recruitment website - it's the large Ishgardian airship at Camp Cloudtop in Sea of Clouds). :O
I just made that Joke, because our PvP comes with the tendency to try something trendy when the Hype is over, instead of just doing 2 Team 5 Flags to Conquer and 12 Minutes to punch each other in the face. ^^I hope not.
Not because I have anything against the idea, could actually be fun if say the "find loot" aspect is "find Logos actions" or something similar, just... Look at how hard SE has tried to kill Rival Wings... It took substantial community effort just to get the queues active, then they go add an entirely new map for one month, then kill it again by splitting NA/EU up... It barely pops as is, the data center split will once again prevent it ever happening... It's really just wasted development time, I guess some view PvP in general as that, but they should just stick to working on Feast or something... PvP is such a niche in this game that it really isn't wise to split the playerbase over multiple modes... I thought they'd learned that with the FL Roulette, but then they went and made RW its own mode as well...
Battle Royal works primarily on a large number of people being there at the start, so it would have to be comparable to 72 player Frontlines. PvP in this game cannot support that post-split, it would be foolish to try. Not to mention, Battle Royal needs very active queues IMO, you can't die in the first minute and then have to wait for the last match to conclude before you get in again, and that is almost certainly how such a thing would work in XIV. That would drive people away from the mode very fast, you need enough people playing for there to be multiple matches going on, and unless you make it much smaller scale, I struggle to imagine XIV even having the population for a single instance...
What I really hope they work on is a Skirmish mode. Queue up for Feast, Frontlines, or Rival Wings. Instantly you're put in a Skirmish "match" that just acts like a lobby. A free for all that doesn't matter where you can just mess around, talk to other people, get a good idea of how many people are even queuing with you, all while you wait for whatever you queued for to pop... Blows my mind that PvP still doesn't have any indication of how many people are in the queue... PvE has had that forever, if Rival Wings had that it'd be far more active IMO, seeing 43/48 might have people stay in queue, seeing absolutely no number and being left to assume the worst? That drives people away. Who knows though, World-Visit has the potential to boost Duel activity, so perhaps we can use that to mess around while waiting in queue, rather than a Skirmish mode...
Astralagos was not mainly killed by splitting the Servers, it is mostly killed by the Devs trying to overdo it.
How PvP in 14 could work: 2 Teams, 5 Flags, 12 Minutes or a Castle, 2 Teams (Attacker and Defender), some Towers and stuff to Conquer and 15 Minutes to punch faces.
What we get: Defend a Generator on the middle, collect Aether below it, to buy Robots, while at the same time, you need Players to fight Minions and Robots and destroy Towers and sometimes you might someone using a Cannon and if you are lucky and find some time in between you can fight a Player.
What would I drop:
Collecting Aether, nobody wants to run in a circle collecting Aether from the Floor.
Defending a Generator in the middle if that means to stand around half of the Match.
Too many Gimmicks in a single Mode.
Any kind of RNG Tower thing like Robbenholm. RNG in PvP is not fun, it is just boring. You can win Robbenholm just because RNGesus was nice or lose in the last Minute, because the Flames who are 20 Points behind get two golden Nodes. Not fun, not fun at all.
And everything that makes Players do anything else than PvP in a Match. They start this mode to fight other Players, not to collect Aether or sit around for 5 Minutes or pray that RNGesus gives them a nice placed Node in the last Minute.
I have played quite a lot of PvP and the Problem is, they expect everybody to follow one Player in the Chat and not just to let Squads try to Player together, like in Battlefield. It is so much easier to manage 4 other Players and they might follow another Player, instead of 31 who are supposed to follow a single Player.
That might be fun for JP Players, to have their General telling them were his little Soldiers should go, but I would even say that only a very small Part of them enjoys that.
Especially, when a stranger demands that you should follow his Orders, because he was the first to claim himself to be General Lee from Takeshis Castle (I miss that Show).

I can't believe players still like playing 10 to 20 year-old games!...
I think it's time to let XIV die, the game is boring now and I'm totally fed-up with the same routine expansion after expansion, I welcome any new Final Fantasy game they have in the making and if that game is a new MMO that is to replace XIV then I'd be happy!...
Playing with low-polygon doodles in 2019 is not my idea of having fun, I should unsubscribe actually, I'm just wasting time in this old game!...
Graphics =/= fun.
I recently bought Final Fantasy VII on the Switch. I have played it on PS1, PS4 & Steam (PC) and now I have it on the Switch.
I still play this 22 year old game because it has an amazing story and the gameplay is fun.
I played Pong the other day and that game is 47 years old. (came out in 1972).
I do like to play good looking games too, like Final Fantasy XV Which I re-bought on PC (have it on PS4 since launch) just to play it with maximum graphics settings on 4K with my overkill PC, but graphics aren't everything.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
I REALLY REALLY wanted to like XV, but sadly it didn't appeal to me as much as I wanted. Since I don't own consoles, I was happy and hyped to play it on PC when it got released but... for some reason it didn't cut it for me. I realized that it's most likely because I enjoy a more medieval setting when it comes to plot, characters, the world itself. XV didn't deliver me that. The game seems good, I can see why people like it, but I lean towards the Ivalice-like games, you know XII, Tactics, Vagrant Story, stuff like that. I'd like to include IX on the list because, for me, it's the very representation of what a Final Fantasy game should look like.I really enjoyed FF15, the things i wish it had was true open world and a bigger world in general. From all the talk they had they made it seem like it would be a truly open world final fantasy game. And they made it sound so huge. And yes the map is large, but i wanted it larger. Probably a selfish request. I mean sure you can get out of your car and explore, but there really isn't much to discover. There is nothing exciting to discover while running around. Outside of the main road, cities, dungeons, and hunt locations, there isn't much to explore.
Granted and being honest to you, I didn't get *that* far into the game, to the point the car becomes an airship. Maybe it gets better, but for now, I'm too hooked in XIV to play other games. ; ; It's a curse.
Wow, almost as if different people had different tastes... and no, I disagree, XIV has a lot to offer. XI was (and still is) alive and being played for instance. Some people don't care too much about graphics.
While it wish this was true if it is a remake but why would you need Yoshida for that?Hopefully its complete next gen overhaul of XI with still keeping lots of the important elements of the current game. As of XIV. Its already on its way out the door. We already got bunch of cut content and just loads of bad and uncreative ideas from developers. Wouldn't even want yoshida to work on the next mmo.
It would have to be bigger than that. It would have to be a completely new Game. I mean it could be a new MMO more like FFXI or the same world to replace FFXI. But he is not need for him for a remake or HD update if that is what you meant.
Again we know something bigger is coming for the 20th anniversary and maybe he is overseeing the project.

The Fifth Division oversees both XIV and XI. If it was something related to the 20th anniversary, they likely wouldn't have needed to expand it to the Third Division, and an XI remaster wouldn't be considered a "core game" as the announcement said it will be.While it wish this was true if it is a remake but why would you need Yoshida for that?

They obviously wanted to space out the reveals for everything. I also don't think people understand that it's a FANfest not a FFXIV reveal convention. The movie is literally about the game so not sure why so many people are salty about that. They aren't going to go into detail over every single thing in the new expansion over the course of one weekend. I personally think people are just way too emotional over the no healer and no male viera thing that they are letting that completely dictate how they feel about the expansion as a whole despite the very limited information we have about it currently. While I'm sure they will try some new things this expansion, they aren't going to fix what's not broken.
