Hai! I'm Vahl, in ur mmorpgs, sort'n my inventory and putt'n 2 many H's in my name since FFXI..FFXIV Inventory Tetris Champ
I assume SqE/their Investors want a F2P or 60 Euro B2P MMO, to completly go with the FF MMO Franchise into "Games as a Service".
Nobody can deny that AAA makes a shit ton of Money with that concept while at the same time being able to reduce the Budget to near abysmal Levels.
And in the end SqE is a AAA Publisher and their Investors could be heavily interessted into this Trend or threaten them to invest into other Publishers who develop such Games, as EA, Activision or Ubisoft.
We always have to keep in mind, that the Investors do not care for a second about the Industry.
After FF15 and the Problems of the Game as a GaS Game my guess is, that they move back to make another GaS MMO instead of a Singleplayer focused Game with GaS Elements.
And in Japan FF is still the less popular Franchise compared to Dragon Quest, so they are more likely to go for such Risk with the FF Franchise.
The thing is...will it be good or bad...nobody knows.
Games like R6Siege are not bad as a GaS Concept, while Games like Destiny, Anthem and F76 show the worst of GaS.

IIRC, Yoshida already stated that he would not work on the next FF MMO when the current is at the height of its popularity (actually I think he said while it's still making a lot of money). It is also VERY common for these concerns to come up when we near the release of the next expansion for some reason. Happened with SB, and it happened with HW too. My guess would be XVI, or a mobile game. The guy already looks so tired at every conference he does, and spreads himself thin as is. Extremely tough to imagine him taking on yet another project.
After a fast check, it seems the 3rd division is the Luminous one.
From what I know, this is the team who work on the new licence AAA to be announced soon or later (SE is coming to E3 2019).
There are reccuring rumors that say Final Fantasy licence could be abandonned for a brand new one. It can make sense since they release remaster from the old ones (kinda looks like a retrospective).
Will it be based on Agni's Phylosophy or the last VirtualWorks Trailer (that looks based or a more Space/Cyberpunk world)?
I can't remember when or where but Yoshi-P talked about games using VR. A brand new licence Space or Cyber sounds like a better match than usual FF licence (in my opinion).

You know though he has a boss and he may not have a choice.IIRC, Yoshida already stated that he would not work on the next FF MMO when the current is at the height of its popularity (actually I think he said while it's still making a lot of money).
There are a few things he said originally that came not to be true because SE is a business and makes money and sometimes choice on a corporate level dictate what happens.
Again anything right now is 100 percent speculation.
All I'm going to say is, if they could ARR FFXIV 1.0, they could ARR FFXI. They did FFXIV ARR in 2 years, they could probably do FFXI 2.0 in 3 years (or rather announce it in 3 years, and then release it 2 years later).
I hear what you are saying and do not totally disagree,
Only issue is the engine of FFXIV would be old and it would probably be on something else.
We know something is happening on the 20th anniversary of FFXI already just not what. We also know it will still be going till then at least.
I trust NOTHING on the internet today. If they're still making this claim tomorrow then we will talk lol...
Japanese fiscal year begins Apr 1. they make lots of legit announcements today. April Fool's really isn't a thing in Japan...
^yeah exactly this
It's like yoshi-p adopted a ugly/retarded baby (FFXIV 1.0) and made into his own creation (ARR) but now after the kid is 9yrs old yoshi-p doesnt want to let them grow up... he still wants the 9yr old in the pram (the same boring formula)
I also hope Yoshi-P doesn't direct any new MMOs going forward yes it has worked for FFXIV but what's the point if the new MMO is going to be similar as another that already still exists? it's going to need to have new ideas from a new director, the same reason why the director of FFXI didn't work when he was in charge of FFXIV 1.0.
If anything I wish Yoshi-p will get replaced and someone new comes in and takes lead for 14 while yoshi goes off and does some magic on another game like when he first did ARR because since then HW and SB just feel like they are progressively getting worse with no new ideas, expansions are suppose to feel like they are expanding on the current game's content not feel like it's just a delete then copy/paste the same old formula.
