Here was I, thinking that when faced with two polarizing factions- those who would wish for the remake to stay true to the original as much as possible, and those who would wish for the game to be brought up to the standards of today instead of clinging to the past in everything except the graphical quality- SE would have to compromise even further than they ever did with XIII, leaving one of these factions disappointed resulting in a mixed reaction like never seen before anywhere. Possibly angering both, trying to find a compromise yet pleasing nobody in the process as everybody would have something to hate, together as one.

Here was I, thinking that a remake of a game you may have played and enjoyed during a significantly different stage of your life- a game that is being remembered as more of a brilliant experience than merely a video game- wouldn't "feel the same" regardless of what the developers did to it.

But alas, all of it was a huge mistake. None of these issues would be present, and thus is the company in question foolish for not attempting to give in to the fans' demands. The game would be a perfect success.

I've said in the past to those who defend XIII by referencing it's massive sales that the game sold well because it was branded "FF".

They did not know all the gameplay and exploration was streamlined out of it to make way for a 30hr soap opera.

I do like FF games but I'm not blind to the lack of content or interactivity in modern games. I think the sales reflect the fact that I'm not the only one who feels this way:

Public is not making the same mistake twice it seems.

In summary my assumption(totally subjective mind you) is that the general public has caught on the fact that Motomu Toriyama can not direct a good game to save his life.

Please SE bring forth new designers that can design games without streamlining everything we love away from this franchise.

In the end money talks and right now people are voting with their wallets.

YEs, I agree SE needs new FF game designers. I remember reading how Final Fantasy came to be and the company was in dire straights. Final Fantasy was a title (along with Dragon Quest) that helped "Square/ Square Soft" (old company name) make surplus. FF was a hit out of creative thinking but desperation. I just wish they can do that again w/o hire freaks and geeks to make new titles. We want RPGs not cinema and EMO-dis-functional characters on a quest.

As far as RPG settings of old, it was based on a single mission orbited by lots of quest (which was optional but necessary). I wouldn't worry so much a visual effects and graphics if the game's going to suck.

Therefore, anything that has atleast one returning cast member in the same universe as the original work.

In case you didn't know, FFX is a sequel to FFVII, as far as timeline and world. It's canon. Look it up.

I'm really getting into FF-Tactics now these days. Seem like the closes thing to RPG Final Fantasy is ATM with new releases. I've played all the classics already and killed them all to the point of boredom. So SE can make a decent RPG anymore and slap their logo on it(damn shame, an I'm a fan-boy too).

Tactics is prob my fav FF title. When XIV was first announced before we knew ANYTHING about it, I secretly hoped it was going to be in Ivalice.

For me, Final Fantasy ended when Hironobu Sakaguchi stepped down as the lead designer after Final Fantasy VI. The franchise still held the title of the franchise from VII on, but without Sakaguchi, the game lost its soul. I still do like some of the later Final Fantasy titles, they just don't have what made Final Fantasy a success. Soon enough, Squeenix will realize that they can only ride the FF-Train for so long.

With Square-Enix struggling to catch up to the current generation of gaming in terms of design and innovation(Final Fantasy XIII was really just a very pretty PS2 game), it would be suicide for them to go back and remake a game that hasn't been relevant for over a decade no matter how great it may have been at its time.

i'm sorry i have to disagree with this, there is a reason hollywood is looking to the past, kingkong, the A team, planet of the apes, clash of the titans, these are all remakes and all did pretty well. and the games industry can learn something from this. the current generation of gamers is not just made up of youngsters. alot of gamers are in their 30-40s these are the first generation to grow up with computers and consoles. so to make a game in the style of games past or remake a game of old and give it a new shine would appeal to nostalgic old timers

edit:this can be seen with both mario and sonic games of today. the appeal to both me and my 6 year old and we play them together
