I simply wanted to expression my opinion that gender-locked races are not very inclusive. Even if the male Viera are implemented to be very minimally different from female with a minimum of custom work, that would be preferable to gender locking.

A young looking and shorter male Viera design as that would be completely different from the ones we've gotten so far from different races would be extremely great. And representation matters. Guys aren't just tall and buff, or sexy, or wide shoulders. If there were just more options for heights it would be great as well...
❖may the light of the crystal shine upon thee❖
in other words, what I'm trying to say is, since we already have that body type in the form of male highlander, perhaps it would be better to have a body type we do not have: short and slim like Alphinaud.
but in any case, I rather have male viera in whatever form than none at all.
Not disagreeing the point I guess, but the example is bad. http://i.imgur.com/03YUs5D.jpgCompared to male Au Ra, the female Au Ra definitely look like children. Most of them are nearly half the height of the males. Female Au Ra are only like one head taller than a lalafell. Even the emotes are childish looking. :v You're in a glass house Miss Penelope. I don't want young looking viera either, but to try and act like people are disturbed or perverted just for wanting that is wrong. If we're allowed to have young looking females in the game there is no reason males shouldn't be allowed too.
That's a tall head fem ra minheight is over lala max height.
EDIT: And just based off this height chart, almost everything would look like children to a male ra if we're saying fem ra look like kids compared.

I like to think that most of us truly appreciate all of the work the development team has done and continues to do.
The immense workload involved with tailoring gear to so many unique body types, the inherent limitations that can impose when finite resources force you to choose between two genders or more races, and the apprehension to create the first official and potentially controversial representation of a male Viera in all of Final Fantasy, I hope, can be appreciated too.
That being said, I am a long-time player of FFXIV (pre-ordered 1.0 CE, here since 2.0), and one of the greatest strengths of FFXIV, and part of its success in my view, is the unprecedented degree of choice and self-expression you can exude in your character(s) as compared to similar games. As such, FFXIV fosters a pretty eclectic, inclusive community which I think has come to see that level of choice as an inherent part of the FFXIV experience. In light of that, the omission of male Viera and female Hrothgar does seem somewhat out of character for the game, and was especially glaring considering female Ronso existed in FFX, and expectations for male Viera were high after females were announced.
Therefore - for a not insignificant number of people - the decision makes the game world feel "incomplete"; choice has been limited, and something was intentionally left on the cutting room floor.
Personally, I have hoped for male Viera ever since I saw the concept art years ago, and - with due respect for the challenges - would still like to see them in the game at some point (preferably with a moderate stature, but would at least take a lenient height slider). The same goes for female Hrothgar. Even though I won't play one, I know many people are interested and I don't think the cast of characters will feel "complete" without them.
If anyone reads this, thanks for listening.

Id prefer if male and female viera stayed around the same height to me making them reverse au ra doesn't really justify what they did with au ra its just the same issue to me.
Not saying the game has no room for smaller sweeter males just don't think viera should be that imho.

As someone that's played every male race at one point or another, its far closer to Au Ra though more top-heavy than hourglass-y. Highlanders do not have that much of a difference between their shoulders, waists, and hips.n other words, what I'm trying to say is, since we already have that body type in the form of male highlander, perhaps it would be better to have a body type we do not have: short and slim like Alphinaud.

Personally, I'd like them to look somewhat similar to the females in the vein of "supermodel that could kill you" but I'm also in the boat that'd settle for seeing them period.
Im really happy to see the positive vibes on here!! I hope the community stays positive and polite with their statements! Im also disappointed to see people in arguements on here. If you dont like something, then just dont comment! This thread is supposed to stay open minded and welcoming! Lets hope we can get some male viera and fem hrothgar in future updates! Thank you Yoshi P!
