Some interesting stuff in, thanks for linking it.Apologies if this has been posted, but I think the answers in this interview are quite positive. Transcript is in the description.
Ronsos', or Hrothgar in ffxiv terms, models were created way before the existence of Roegadyns. And sure, maybe picking Hrothgars and possibly using Roegadyn models was more of a convenience since they wouldn't have to rebuild a new race from scratch. They could also give more budget to the game, but I highly doubt, as a big corporation, they'd be willing to do so.Oh please. They basically took Roes and added fur textures to make Hrothgar. Making male Viera using current resources would be no issue. Rather than them needing to direct resources from somewhere else, Square should simply give the game a better budget. The game makes Square enough money as it is, they could certainly stand to spend a bit more money on the game.

love the idea of making the male viera on alphinaud's body type, I really wanted a small cute male to play (that's person-shaped instead of potato-shaped like lala lol)
In terms of concept art, sure. But unless there's already a floating character model somewhere around in Square's vault, it's highly unlikely they're going to go out of their way to create a brand new model for male Vieras. As well as making them fit every single piece of equipment, create new animations, etc.
Why is it less likely than doing the exact same thing for Miqo'te?In terms of concept art, sure. But unless there's already a floating character model somewhere around in Square's vault, it's highly unlikely they're going to go out of their way to create a brand new model for male Vieras. As well as making them fit every single piece of equipment, create new animations, etc.

And even a race WITH a literal hive mind - The Vath - had a group break away and form their own independent thought and destiny. So... Yeah.
I kind of like the idea of a smaller male and larger female. We have so much of the opposite (au ra for example), and it would be a nice change and give more options for males. Since they are supposed to have two tribes, they could make both types of males. One tribe be the smaller males and the other have the larger males. I know that wont happen just due to the amount of work that would take, but it would be a cool concept. I was excited for male bunnies, and I know atleast 3 friends who wanted to be male bunnies.
Realistically, if there isn't a character model already created for a male Viera and if there isn't a similar body type from existing races that they can edit to make the male Viera possible while keeping the race unique, do you think they have the time to make sure every single piece of armor, weapon, and animation will work properly for the character model? Do you have any idea how much time and money that would cost to do? I'm all for a male Viera, but honestly the developers don't need that kind of stress. Plus I don't think everyone is going to be happy with a world full of nothing but male Vieras. Jokes aside, from a business standpoint, I don't think the development team has the creation of male Vieras on their schedule.
Come on Enix, this is obscured... You can’t scream lore at us if you are breaking it already. Or did you forget the crossover event coming soon that will give players in eorzea a convertible? Let alone adding FFVII’s motorcycle as a fan fest reward? Or even the fact you said back at 2.0 that there wouldn’t be anymore genderlocks. So now we aren’t to trust your word to mean anything? How can your players trust that you will listen if you can’t even keep your word? Especially with something you published back during HW with the concept art having both male and female sketches and concepts? You don’t have to “follow lore” in your own world for a realm not even a part of the crystals. It’s a fantasy game, why should “lore” for a separate game apply here? If you don’t want there being that many males, make both male Viera and female Ronso as a mog station purchase then. Most of us would gladly pay for them.

Personally, like a lot of others, I'd base it on Alphinaud's body. Make a smaller male to go with the larger females. It'd fit their lore too - If they're reclusive and deadly stalkers that lurk in their own woods, being a tall lanky boy or a big muscle man would be counter to that. Being small but fit and agile would fit quite well.Realistically, if there isn't a character model already created for a male Viera and if there isn't a similar body type from existing races that they can edit to make the male Viera possible while keeping the race unique, do you think they have the time to make sure every single piece of armor, weapon, and animation will work properly for the character model?
