Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

This doesn't sound sensible in universe. Male Viera, more so than female Viera, view the outside world as a threat to the wood. Their specific duty is to protect the wood from the outside world, and they're effectively elite assassins who do nothing but that.

But that particular male would be special because he would be the Warrior of Light. He'd receive visions from the Echo and the Mothercrystal and have his view expanded whether he likes it or not. We've seen flashbacks from items, environments, and even enemies we've faced. Plus, he'd be exposed to the imminent danger posed by the encroaching Darkness (as presented at the beginning of 2.0). The only way to defend the wood would be to leave it and strike at the source of the threat - or at least find it, at which point they'd reach Eorzea in their travels and the story will unfold as we know it.

I'm content to wait if i know for certain they're coming eventually. It's the not knowing and the devs waiting to get a feel for the crowd that makes me impatient, personally.

Mhm, well - I'm fairly sure we're getting them (male Viera / female Ronso) either at 6.0 or somewhere before, so I'm not really that fussed. And honestly that "considering" -reply mostly feels like they are just teasing community, tho some are taking "not knowing for certain" a bit badly.

I'll join the gang if it looks like we aren't getting by then.

Male viera aren't a hive mind. It isn't impossible for a few of them to want to leave any more so than it is for female viera to decide to leave. Just making it so there were 0 viera npcs would do enough to maintain their mystery from a lore perspective. Letting the WoL be a viera who left the wood wouldn't be an unthinkable lore violation. I mean, no more so than an Au Ra WoL somehow making it to eorzea before even Yugiri did.

Exactly. Viera, male or female, are NOT a hive mind. It literally makes no sense to assume they all think, feel, or act in exactly the same way. Its illogical.

I don't really want to play a Viera myself, but I do want people who were looking forward to male Viera to be able to do so. I also don't like gender-locked races as a concept, it limits the options people have to work with.

I would like to show my support for male Viera and for the removal of gender locks. Some details that drew me to ARR in the first place were no restrictions on gender and class that you might find in other MMO's. The fact that gender locks have made a return is very disappointing.

I appreciate and thank you, yoship and dev team, for all your hard work, but I hope you reconsider this decision.

I cannot see a male viewing the world outside the wood to be better or of more value than the life they lead inside the wood. And while you're very correct in that females live comfortable lives within the wood, that is the very reason why they wind up leaving the wood: To go on living lives rich with adventure. While their lives are comfortable, they tend to be lacking in fulfillment. Curiosity eventually gets the better of them and when it does they're typically found in dangerous or highly skillful occupations outside the wood.

You don't think even one male Viera would end up with the same curiosity? No offense intended, but it's a little goofy to think male Viera are all rank and file and not even one of them will question the way things are and leave. Most especially considering they spend their childhood years alongside female Viera before they're whisked away, meaning they enjoy some modicum of comfort before they begin life as a Wood Warder and are forced into survival mode.
