I was expecting a catchier thread title.

As a devoted tanaka hater I approve the title.

Been said many times before but I can't stop: For a patch that was supposed to act as the final little nudge that would convince the players to start paying a monthly fee 1.20 was almost a joke.

I seriously wonder: What kind of people is leading this game? How can they be so disconnected from the most basic consensus of what is fun and what is tedious in a videogame?

The fact that they need to make changes to the content barely a week after release is the worst part, seriously, because it means that the next morning after the patch the boss devs went into their little meeting room, gathered around a PC and waited while Yoshida loaded the boards then all screamed at once in genuine surprise "HOLY CRAP THEY HATED IT! WHAT WENT WRONG?".

If they can't at least tell what most of the players are absolutely going to hate maybe they shouldn't be designing games.


It takes a genius to tell what everyone is gonna love but to tell what everyone will hate you only need common sense.

What scares me more is that they wouldn't give a damn.

A guaranteed way of alienating any customers you have in the long-term.

I think they make them out of dumbness and general ignorance of what their customers want.

Usually I would have guessed it was just the usual scumbag move of making the stick really long to keep us going longer after the carrot, but with the current population and the fact that they want us to start paying the two weeks from now I would have thought they would rather not push it...

In ref to betelgeuzah, I stopped reading this guys posts a long time ago and just have him on perma-ignore because he never has anything useful to add except cheerleading SE and insulting anyone who isn't cheerleading with him.

What boggles my mind is he has 2856 posts as of this moment, but barely plays the game, at least with the profile associated with his forum posts. http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com...icuid=12102310

I have assumed for quite some time that he is either a SE employee, a mod who has a non-mod account to post his dribble with, or someone who really needs to get a life, because why post upwards of 3k comments, on a game you barely play.

These are the type of people that tell those of us that actually do play to STFU and go away.

I'd kick that badger in the mouth if it did that nonsense to me. Closest thing you can do to someone like that on the Internet is to put them on ignore in these forums.

tl;dr of my eaten post: I'm giving Yoshida the benefit of the doubt that they REALLY thought this was "OK". I also will assume that their QA crew probably are more tolerant of grindy content than we are (assuming this is the same QA crew from the alpha/beta days). Like I said in my other post, the world community is here to keep Yoshida and his crew in check and to slap them on the wrist when they make bad game design decisions like this. You know you did something wrong when the JP population complains it's grindy. I have Stockholm syndrome with XIV, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they honestly thought this was okay and pushed this through without thinking.

If they do it again though, THEN I'll start worrying.
