Going forward they should just change ninja to use monk/samurai gear. It'd save them a lot of work, and ninja is no more aesthetically distinct from monk/samurai than they are to each other.

If I had a Monk in a Ninja Outfit with the Inferno Fists, that would be badass

NIN and MNK can share the left side gear while SAM share with DRG. While they might be aesthetically different, NIN and MNK do share being the more "fluid" of the four melees.
So it make sense for them to have the "lighter" melee gear, while SAM and DRG get the "heavier" melee gear.

They're not going to shift samurai out just to move ninja in, and Yoshi-P specifically wanted samurai to have an Edo period lightly-armored samurai aesthetic. DRG has the most justification remaining distinct because it in theory uses heavy armor.
