At least there is some somewhat interesting/good news. The original creator of Viera - and the lore - just squashed a rumour on twitter that he objected to Male Viera being a thing. So, I guess that's something.

So, no blaming Yasumi Matsuno (The dramaturge) - it wasn't his choice/decision and perhaps not what the lore originally implied when written.

So now Matsuno is in defense mode saying he has nothing to do with gender locking the Viera.
There is a thread in Reddit with a link to his personal Twitter account.
Funny how SE members start washing their hands now.
This all re-confirms once again that Yoshida is the one responsible for this.
There is no Lore excuse period.
He even stated years ago he didn't want male Viera because they look weird for him.
Male Viera look weird but male cat boys/ male potatos and thunder cats don't???????????????

That's good news, I was worried the reason it didn't happen was simply a high power individual being like "never, go eat a chocobo pie". Hopefully it means Yoshida didn't do that though lol. I can get people's frustration splitting resources to make two races but if that's the reason then it seems hopeful that you could see them later. Respect to the disappointed who also haven't been running around calling others names .

Of course as disclosure I still think it's cool to finally have a beasty like race, but I'm not a one dimensional person lol - I am capable of sympathy and empathy.

Possibly a nice way to use this is by making some epic events that make the two locked genders join the fray, like straight up Garleans attacking our city hubs and draft like effect going into play. Male viera no choice but to help or perish, perhaps a bit of elves helping humans lord of the rings feeling lol. It would be nice if they could word a response to this in a way of something like "we are excited to see the passion for male viera and female hrothgar and while due to constraints we were unable to see them at release of the expansion we would add... they're real, and there is a real possibility we will see them come out from the shadows in the future ". Then of course design them lol, even if its next expansion content.

I really question the developer's decision to genderlock races when it clearly wasn't popular already way back in 1.0. Please developers, reconsider. The players don't want genderlocked races. You already have beautiful concept art of male Viera in planning stadium, why do you refuse to create them?

honestly, there's little I can say that hasn't already been said, but the decision to genderlock the Hrothgar/Ronso and Viera was a step backward in progress and something I'm not personally very happy about...

the devs are absolutely on crunch time before the Shadowbringers release and I feel terribly that they're having to work so hard... but I really wish we could get female Hrothgar and male Viera, even if it's in a subsequent patch à la rogue/ninja and blue mage.

What confuses me is that if that was the plan, why not reveal the complete Viera race, and save the Ronso for a future surprise update, also completed? Instead you place restrictions on both Viera and Ronso fans.

Think he explained it like he wanted to give people all options but had to choose, and so he chose female Viera and male Ronso because of nostalgia fanservicey type stuff. At least that's what a JP guy in a discord said.

For the most part, I'm indifferent by gender-locked races. Back in 1.0, that concept was the least of their problems when the game was barely playable to begin with. Even if they added both genders to all races while adding in Viera/Hrothgar back then, I still wouldn't touch it. But now, the game has customization out of the rear and it's functioning with small problems here and there. So I really don't see the gender locked races being a traumatic concern for the game and its developers when it still has a lot going for it.

What is this "customization out the rear" you speak of?

Certainly isn't in the character creation. There are more hairstyles than anything else, but whatever the new one is is the one you'll see the most anyways.
