they arent really different roles, in fact all dps is basically just built role wise to do the same thing. The difference is just how you do dps, but that can be said to be different for all dps.
On the bright side, OP... all jobs are being reworked for 5.0. So it might be the case that whichever healer you main changes significantly to "scratch the itch" or perhaps one of the other healer jobs will change significantly that you will want to play that instead. Which is at least kind of like getting a new job. ^_^
Would have been nice to have tank and healer this go around, but that just means it SHOULD definitely be next time.
I'd like to see SE go two expansions without adding a new DPS class, maybe then people would understand.
Erm... Ranged DPS in this game actually support their party by powering them up. Bard brings a critical hit increase whenever they sing and Troubadour's effect varies depending on which song you are on. Machinist also bring Hypercharge which is their version of Trick Attack and Dismantle to reduce incoming damage. The Ranged DPS role bring Refresh, Tactician and Palissade all to aid their party. No other DPS role currently brings these tools to the extent the physical ranged DPS do.
I looked at the other threads, but they had titles which didn't really suit my feedback, and I didn't want to hijack someone elses thread due to mine being quite a large and long post that covers a lot of things that might derail their topic even a little bit. Felt better to just make my own since it was my sole opinions and feedback and not speaking for anyone else or their exact topic.
I rarely make threads, or even post anymore, so honestly I feel like your crusade is being aimed at the wrong person
Yeah I agree with that sentiment, but I am still really disappointed simply due to the length of time the FFXIV team has left healers hanging. It's too long in my opinion, and I really feel they failed their healer fans right now and could have done this better.On the bright side, OP... all jobs are being reworked for 5.0. If I continue to play though I might just play RDM or DNC, not sure yet....
I'll get back to you on this, I have errands to run and I don't have time right now to make a bigger post.
Not really.
From my alphascape experiences:
- WAR/PLD -> WAR MT
- WAR/DRK -> WAR MT
- PLD/DRK -> DRK MT
Although this is more like in O11S where there no tank swap required.
In the other 3, the tanks mostly share similar role, which is another reason why I find it weird SE still holding on to this MT/OT concept.
Unless, they meant something else regarding MT/OT.
Regarding the balancing reason for not adding a new healer.
I'm kinda disappointed since this was basically what they were saying when releasing SB, and two years later nothing really changed.
I mean if they have difficulties balancing the current three healers and stuck atm, maybe adding another healer could help break the loop? you know, the same reason adding new tank will help the balance.
OP’s post resonates my feelings on the matter. As someone who primarily plays as Tanks and Healers, (except in 24 mans, where I’m usually a DPS) I’m still baffled that they would add a tank using the excuse of “to give a rival option to WAR for the OT position”. Yet... they refuse to use the same excuse for adding a new healer? And instead they give us the “but balance!” excuse again?
I’ve got a news flash for that. If “balance” continues to be used as an excuse for no new jobs, then quite frankly, no job role should be getting new jobs EVER again. Because boy oh boy, I could sit here and throw out an entire list of balance issues for every job role in this game. (Looking at you, MCH!) IMO, I thus find the excuse “but balance!” to be an incredibly weak one. And one that people should stop spouting. There’ll never be such a thing as “perfectly balanced”. Tier lists prove this every day.
Note: I’m not saying that balance should be COMPLETLY disregarded. But I AM saying that people need to stop using it as an excuse for why we should never get any new jobs.
And as I’ve said earlier, I’m not unsubbing just because the #1 job I was looking forward to became a DPS instead of a healer. (I’m still going to play DNC, and likely replace MNK as my go to physical DPS) Nor because of the other things they announced this fan fest that were questionable. (Gender locked races! Oh boy!) I’m still excited to see what the rest of Shadowbringers brings. The story in particular. I’m just massively disappointed by the fact that it’s now very likely we’re going to possibly go SIX years without a new healer.
... and no one feed me that “They’ll feel new!” speech. After seeing how they handled “balancing” for healers in Stormblood, I’m honestly not expecting anything really new from our current healers.
That's because they are stuck trying to force a regen/raw (WHM) + shielder comp (SCH) and they actually have one job that can do both. (AST) So they caused this problem themselves because they decided they wanted to stick with the regen + shield comp and haven't tried to change it since AST was released, and they have to balance AST against both WHM AND SCH for two different slots in the same comp.i get that there hasnt been much growth in your chosen field.
but, i wonder what exactly would you want from a new healer? I feel like the reason they have no new healers is because there isnt much a new healer would bring to the table. Unless they were willing to make some healer types that bend or push the combat system overall.
i agree that dps isnt drastically different either, but dps can be allowed to be bad, tank and healer are generally designed where as long as you try, you will probably be adequate.
to summarize, what are you looking for in a new healer other than existing?
Even though SCH is supposed to be a less efficient on demand healer (they have a lot of spike on cooldowns) since it is designed to be a preventive healer, the fairy itself does enough healing since a lot of stuff in the game doesn't hit very hard. So the fairy ends up a problem, too.
All of this compounds with fight design, where healers can DPS 65-80+% of the time, which means a high power mp efficient healer like White Mage doesn't shine as much in it's supposed advantages leading to people to fall back to utility which they lack and the other two healers bring causing more balance problems.
From where I'm sitting the lack of healer variety is their fault. If they can't figure out how to remove regen + shield comp, remove a sect from AST and add a 4th healer to fit the open slot. (Trying to balance AST vs WHM and SCH and another healer would be a disaster) or, remove the reliance on shields (perhaps shuffle more of it to tanks) and open up the healer mechanics a bit more.

I know this question was aimed at Miste, but I am going to chime in anyway.
Content
Even if a 4th healer was just a carbon copy of another healer. *cough* AST *cough* The job still gets its own content, which includes but not limited to: new job quests, new NPCs, new lore, new abilities, new animations, new AF armor, new glamour options that pertain to the job, new learning experiences, and in the case of tanks - a new mount. With the mention of that last one, I really hope the dev team acknowledges what they are putting healer mains through, and do give us a specific mount as some kind of consolation or something. Just anything to let us know that they acknowledge our woes.
But your post tells me that you are likely not a healer main, and/or are not as invested in the healer role as Miste and the rest of us are. We will never be the poster job for any expansion. We hardly get any MSQ recognition whatsoever. Our expectations in group play are high, and commendations are low in comparison to those expectations. We are the hearts that beat inside the chest of an mmo and it is REALLY easy to feel underappreciated after putting 100% effort into this role.
To put it simply: It just isn't fair.
Hopefully that sheds a little light.
