I wonder if SE just has two different lores for this game. Like for us as players our lore is simply fantasy, hence the mounts we can farm in game and the mounts that can be bought off of Mog Station, along with all the different clothes we can wear. Then there is the lore for MSQ where it visually has lived up to scarcity of some races and jobs and even mounts that NPC use. For Aur Ra in Heavensward the DRK trainer actually speaks of his people being wiped out due to being mistaken as dragons to the Ishgaurdians (is that how you spell it?) so in a sense they are sticking to lore for the MSQ. Other WOL, are people who can hardly handle the echo or are deceased and our character is the only WOL who can achieve anything(rare jobs, rare race, etc) or at least that is what is being shown in MSQ. I hope they clarify this as questions pop up about their decisions and that we get more information about some of this at Day 2 of Fan fest. Plus there is apparently two types of Viera and one of them is supposed to have bent ears based on the last fan fest.

I like what the JP crowd has been saying that even with the lore written this way, they question the idea of isn't it still easily possible for at least Male Viera to exist since technically they are adventuring and living their lives in the forest? The other race seems to be a race we encounter like beast tribes ( know nothing at all about them until we see them and walk in their territory) and just gradually learn more about them through the story. So it's possible for the same thing to happen for them to be adventures who are also wondering around. Some JP players even mention that aren't we all sort of giving our characters their own mini background as to how they came to be? They are handling this in a very calm way.

This is not me taking sides but just genuinely curious like any other person about their decision. Ignore or respond with your own thoughts

If they decide to implement male/female Viera and Hrothgar, we're going to lose out on future content due to time constraints. I guarantee it! These requests don't come without a cost.

If the future content in question are things that nobody asked for or wants like LoV, Eureka, or Diadem then all the more reason for them to work on those races.

This is not a matter of "they don't exist in lore" this is completely a matter of "they didn't want male viera, and made up lore to justify it". Which understandably makes people pissed.

My hypothesis would be that they didn't want to disrespect the original lore creator for the Viera... whom i assume was the person who worked in them in the latest raid? I wouldn't be surprised if they asked him and he said no. *shrug*

They went to great lengths to make us aware that in FFXIV all the throwbacks are not cannon nor are they sequels. Unfortunatly the Viera seem to be a direct copy paste even lore-wise which limits them.

From what I could gather from this forum the 2 race requests that had the greatest amount of posts were Viera and Ronso.
They tried to cater to both crowds despite their tight schedules. Everyone still got upset.

They way I see it they either just add Viera and then you would have people complaining at how the last race was more of the same "humanoid with animal ears platered on" which people have been criticizing the devs for gods knows how long;

We got Ronso and the pro-Viera people would be angry because "Viera is more popular than Ronso whyyyyy";

We got something completely new;

Or nothing at all.

I think I understand Yoshi's frustration at the community sometimes.

If fans can't respect the lore then just remove Viera all together, I refuse to see Male Viera by the hundreds in this game when lore states nobody has ever seen one. They are NEVER-EVER seen, unlike the male Miqote. This community today... wow! Pleas hiding behind notions of right and wrong to fulfill self-centeredness. Sick.

The upcoming four passenger car collaboration mount & lore to accommodate the event has a bigger impact on immersion than the prospect of them adding genders to races that started out genderlocked like Miqo, Highlanders & Roe. Lore was not an acceptable reason to lock their gender counterparts and will not be an acceptable excuse this time either.

i would say lore is always a pretty poor excuse as its just as easy to not have made said lore prevent it in the first place not that i actually care if we get the other or not, and speaking of lore
id just like to throw a thought out there about lore, while we have the lore set in the source, I feel no one has thought to mention the lore for viera (or viis as they would be called) on the shard, assuming they havent been wiped out entirely or are drastically different in look, wouldnt likely have that same lore excuse.

The lore thus far may be that they are unseen, however impending doom and all that tends to cause a shift in tradition vs necessity. Perhaps to fulfill their duty to protect their home they must break traditional boundaries. Our entire gameplay revolves around changes and lore evolving.

I bought this game. I've been paying for sub nonstop since 2.0, even when I wasn't paying because I wanted to support the game. I have as much right to demand a product I want from the money I spend, as you do.

Glamours are important to some of us, and it could break our desire to play this game. It did mine.

Edit: Everyone needs to take a breath and calm down. Does anyone have any concern for the devs and their well-being? Or do all of you only care about what you want? Seriously, the selfishness on this forum right now is astounding!

The hell are you going on about dev teams? It's their job. Do you not have to work overtime, ever? Do you not get paid overtime, ever?

Nobody asked for BLU. It's cool, it's fun, but nobody asked for it. Neither did anyone asked for Eureka or Diadem, and these two are probably universally hated by the player base.

Your comment isn't much better. I don't care about male Viera, but I understand why people would want it, and why people are mad.

You don't have to kick them while they are down, this is more SEs fault than theirs, with the concept art they released and the hype that lead to nowhere.

So since we're gonna be disrespecting the lore just so male Viera can be playable (excluding Hrothgar for now because we don't know what lore reason they have to not be playable yet), can this mean other Beastmen like Kobolds, Vanu Vanu, Amalj'aa, etc can be playable?

I've gone through years of being told that they could not be playable due to lore reasons. Sure, I now have the Hrothgar to look forward to (thank you, SE), but I'm greedy and would like more options.
At least with the Beastmen, we know they exist.
