Gender locked race?

I honestly see it like this, gender locking the two, kind of dumb, can be supported by lore, and dont really mine one way or another, they are still new choices for people come 5.0

Now do I see them adding in the opposite gender in maybe, the next expansion, yeah, I think they just got these two out so they would both be usable, then come next expansion, when we have restored balance to the First Shard, lore could then be bent that the opposite genders came from that shard.

People saying that they should have added both genders to both races right now dont seem to understand how much work adding in a race is. Seeing as these are the last races, splitting up the work through two expansions makes sense legalistically.

One of the main issues is their method of revealing the two races. They lead people on, believing Male Viera were coming, since the reveal was shortly after 4.5 launched. Many people presumed that the Male models just weren't complete, which makes sense since Fran was needed for the raid. But why not just release a new race in 5.0 and 6.0 then. There would be less of an uproar. Plus why couldn't they give us another rabbit-like race, that would be "cousins" to the Viera. They just played this all wrong.

Oh also, based on the lore SE has given us, Male Miqo'te are rarer, birth-wise, but Male Viera are rarer sighting-wise.

sexism is defined as: prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women, on the basis of sex.
to say that females should look sexy and males should look powerful IS a stereotype based on gender, so it is sexism, simple as that.

I take genuine sexism to be considering a woman to be inferior simply as a result of her being a woman and/or treatment as a second class citizen before the law, including violent repression. I take a similar approach with how I view homophobia, etc. I prefer precision in using these terms and don’t like how they’re stretched to encompass many things besides, which waters them down. However, men are by and large physically more powerful and we have evolved as a species to find this attractive, with some outliers - there is ample science backing this up, besides it being something one can know simply through experience. This isn't a case of "stereotyping" but of divergence in aesthetic preferences as a result of this.

Moreover, the game already has strong, athletic women one can play. As others have pointed out, look at the total proportions of active characters they comprise. Yet, the option is there.

No, the actual reason for the Hrothgar gender lock is most likely to avoid any complaints about the Viera being gender-locked (since both races are), plus to approximately mirror the amount of work they're putting in. Trying to cast this in terms of some crusade, which I find misguided even IRL, is just not a constructive way forward in engaging the developers.

On the other hand, I am not pleased with what they have put on offer for people who, like me, prefer playing male characters. I am vehemently against gender-locks in the way they have implemented them and I don't think the logic behind it stacks up, and believe they will eventually end up undoing the gender-lock.

Voicing a desire for playable male viera and female hrothgar, will perhaps make them re-consider their stance based on precedent. I don't predict that the male hrothgar will be played in any high numbers, as they share the Roegadyn body type and I don't think MMO players in general are that fond of bestial races to this extent, although there is no doubt a subset of such people, which may already be playing roegadyn anyway.

In any event, asking the developers for the gender-lock to be done away with is a better approach than hurling accusations at them they may not even care about. I know I don't find terms like 'sexist' to be hugely informative given how widespread their (mis)use is, and certainly not a constructive way to open dialogue - they're more of an attempt to shame the person on the receiving end into compliance, something I doubt JP devs will not realise.

I suggest we get some polling up about the new races to at least begin gauging sentiment on the matter.

But for someone playing since the 2.0 beta this game has been apart of their life for a long time. Media affects us all, if it didn't people wouldn't name their children after characters from books, movies, games etc.

To say its "just a game" is not helpful in anyway to the conversation being had! If it was 'just a game" people should have just been happy with 1.0 cus hey "its just a game" its never just a game its the context and culture surrounding the game, the people who made it, the corporations who fund it, the community that plays its. Its the same for all forms of media! I could say movies like The Godfather" was just a movie calm down people "Titanic is just a movie" "Harry Potter is just a movie" "The Avengers is just a movie" no that's reductionist and ignores everything surrounding the thing in question!

To the people turning this into an “attack” on their identity, I think her response is appropriate, since there is no real evidence of that at play.

With that said, the thing that I find most annoying are the accusations of homophobia, sexism, and toxic masculinity as if any of this has to do with male viera at all. Some people around here have been living in their insulated bubbles in regard to male viera and how they think they should look. There seems to be a preconceived notion that male viera are all glamourized, feminine bishies. And therefore the exclusion of them is 'homophobic' (???)

I do think male viera and female hrothgar have a chance to be added in the future. Probably in an expansion or two.

I mean leaks that are 95% accurate and you don't believe them, fine. That's up to you. But not believing actual game files stating that a second race is coming and knowing how the dev team is to assume we will get only one pair is on you. Yoshi didn't say anything because he was saving Hrothgar for Tokyo, simple. You guys built your own hype up and now you're crashing and it's your own fault. Definitely fight for a change, but this amount of disappointment could have been negated. You were not "lied to", I've seen that thrown around a lot and it's ridiculous.

Okay but let’s not forget that these were the final leaks and that Blufever did not announce a gender-lock. That was another person, whose credibility was lower, although it turns out they were correct on some points. In terms of their evidentiary basis, the leaks were not all on par. However, I think once the coding error was leaked, it did certainly point strongly in that direction.

And you know why "homophobia" inside gay community, some of us don't want to be part of the queer stereotype, unfortunally people like you give us bad image, being gay doesn't mean being femenine, use pink or use skimpy clothes, we are tired of being compared to queer because you are more vocal.

people presuming is not people being lead on.

there are no more new races, they are not making more character models.
