of course entertainment reflects the real world, all forms of it, videogames, tv series, comics, movies, etc. pretending they're 2 separate things is very short sighted.
this same battle is being fought on many fronts, all those entertainment forms included.
also you're contradicting yourself, you're asking to not limit ourselves, but the only ones limiting outselves are the devs with decisions like this.
making 2 races, a sexy looking one for females and a strong looking one for males IS sexist, because it continue the stereotype that femakes should look sexy and males should look powerful.
and again, miqo'te males are also supposedly rare, same lore reason, and here they are. lore can NEVER be a reason to limit gameplay, it's suppposed to be to expand on it.

Yup, and to those people saying there's not much competition in the MMO market, it doesn't even need to be an MMO. They compete for a slice of your time over a whole range of activities, the biggest substitute for which is other games.

Yeah that's a really good point. I'm actually not an MMO gamer. I play games mostly on my own, and an MMO has slipped in there from time to time. This year is looking really good for games - particularly indie games - so I'm not going to be at a loss for games to play.

The gender lock is definitely disappointing. With that said, I'd be equally disappointed if Viera men were added to look like some of the more vocal posters were suggesting earlier on in the thread. I'm not particularly interested in the feminine/androgynous male aesthetic and I don't believe it's something that the game is lacking as most of those posting about such things have designed their current characters to conform to such aesthetics in the first place.

I was much more interested in seeing Viera men turn out to be classically handsome, fairly well-built but also a little fierce and haughty looking. Obviously that didn't happen, so I'm disappointed. Yet I'm not sure why it's being pushed as 'worse' for those wanting androgynous/feminine men to be disappointed when that crowd is far from alone in having been rubbed the wrong way.

The core issue is the the gender lock.

I think I'm gonna do that as well, show support where its needed. Males can wear the bunny ears and female... the coeurl mask I guess.

sexism is defined as: prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women, on the basis of sex.
to say that females should look sexy and males should look powerful IS a stereotype based on gender, so it is sexism, simple as that.

Entertainment is meant to escape the real world... If i want to deal with the real world I turn off my TV and I go outside. It has nothing to do with being shortsighted. I am inhabiting a digital world with people all over the world and we are pretending to be cats... We are living in a story written by a bunch of people in a writers room who want us for just a few hours to forget our work and our troubles and to enjoy ourselves.

I have no idea how i am contradicting myself. You are making a stance on how all females must look sexy it isn't even remotely true. We got the FemRoe, FemHighlander how many people play them? the statistics speak for themselves. we have a choice. The only choice you don't have is to be a man bunny... I honestly do not see the problem the FFX lore made it clear males remain in the forests and they never come out even the female viera see them once every 1-4 years.

The comments about the developers being sexist or homophobic are laughable.
You can have same sex marriages, and you can also be a male lalafell running around in a skimpy bunny butler outfit.

I'm pretty sure the LGBT community has better things to fight for than complain about a fantasy race in a fantasy game and turn a simple design and lore aesthetic into some sort of human rights violation.
As for this 'OMG THEY WANT ALL MALES TO BE BEEFY' sorry but Hyur and Elezen and miquote aren't 'beefy' at all then have regular/slender body types.

If Yoshi straight up denied any new races, and said you were getting none, no one would be having a cry about how sexist and homophobic this game is, you'd just be sad you're not getting a new race, but because the new races aren't want you personally want, then you come brigading on the official forums and kicking and screaming like children.

Feel free to unsub if you feel this minor cosmetic issue takes the fun out of the game for you. Otherwise, just enjoy the expansion.
Don't get me wrong, I think there are 100s of reason to unsub from this game, the stale formula that hasn't changed since ARR, the weekly caps that hinder progression even when you can cap in a day, the repetitive nature of the gameplay, the slow GCD...but not the oh my god I can't design my character to my exact specifications.

If the developers really want to throw that as the reason we cannot have these genders, then why can we play Keepers of the Moon Miqo'te, Duskwight Elezen, and even Raen Au Ra? Why are there multiple jobs that are written in the lore stating as there only being one such as Dragoon, White Mage, and Scholar? The developer is only lying to us and using lore as the excuse when they have been known to bend and allow for things such as this time and again.

This post has been made at least 20 times in this very thread by now. The reasoning I'm sure was something more behind the scenes. It doesn't really matter though. Just push forward and ask for what you didn't get.
