A Big Failure in FFXIV Battle system - You're doing it wrong man!

By the way, I always hated playing melee classes. After the patch, I went with a light party to kill a few diremites. I was on my level 34 gladiator, tanking dem near nophica's wells..


Holy crap, that was awesome.

I was clicking buttons like crazy, doing enmity+ combos, casting sentinel and rampart, flash, moving to grab a stray mob while doing all of the above, tanking 6 mites at a time when a few popped while we were killing others. There wasn't a second where I simply stood still, and if I did that, the mages would get aggro faster than you could say omgthissucks.

Of course, maybe I'm just a bad tank and could've managed everything with half the work. But shit was fast paced and fun as hell. I will seriously consider leveling GLA and will sure try to tank high end content someday.

I would never even think that before the patch.

I think the battle pace is okay. It just need to be a lot better, so i can play for 15 mins without going crazy.~! I swear i get motivated by just reading and interview of 2.0. But when i login into the game, it just vanished... Then am looking around like wth. Why am i here again? Content isn't the problem, It's the damn battle system that's boring me to death.

I have a similar but reversed story to advanced.

I before the patch i was not a very big caster person, I enjoyed dicking around with thm now and again but never really felt comfortable in a party setting. Come this patch i can't get enough of the Magical murder machine the class has turned into. I caped it out yesterday and am very seriously considering making it my "Main" play class.

I have a whole new set of things to learn on top of the stuff that i am constantly finding out by trial and error my self. I can honestly say i have not had this much fun with xiv in a while.

Lightning fast battles are not fun either.
I prefer the current battles.

Oo' i really dont understand what you guys are smoking out there but..FFXIII(-2) looks like biggest bullsh1t SE ever did. yeah pressing X the entire battle is very cool. Second, I am fine with the current bs and combos. It is fast enough.

this battle system is the best ff14 has ever had. Its not a complete button mash fest and its not super snails paste as ff11. IMO its perfect but any additions can not be that bad.

Players like the OP ust not have figured out how to use combos yet. If you cannot figure out how to use every combo, solo, the battle system is slow. But, I fail to see how you can consider this to be slow once you learn your class.

Well if they can feel it being slow.

But here is why I think it's better now and I don't feel it being slow. As Archer I can spam two full sets of combos in a row and then throw several two weapon skills combos until Wide Volley and Bloodletter are up. Between those I can buff with Barrage, Raging Strike, Blindside, whatever I feel is useful and it will be an extra "Quick Nock".

I mean, now I never stop using abilities and spamming damages and still have to strategically control the hate I build.
The different ranges of the actions make me move and not be static.

To me it's better.

Jobs will come complete this system.
