This has absolutely nothing to do with any kind of "bad sign for the future" or "bad choices". This is people being upset because they didn't live up to your expectations and give you what you wanted. People like to go all doom and gloom as for the games direction whenever SE doesn't give them what they want. It's not just FF either, every single MMO's player base does this and it's extremely immature and embarassing.

Excuse me? How? Gender locked races where the male is a hulking monster and the female is a god damn sex doll are incredibly bad signs, ESPECIALLY when the original iterations of these races are not gender locked. Not to mention, the new storyline for SHB is basically tryhard bullshit where you have to ~express the evil to balance the good~ and then let's not even get started on how they have decided to make a tank and no new healer?

There's many many things that are telling of messy, ill thought and bad decisions, it's just these races are the biggest glaring misogynistic pile of 2007 garbage out of them all.

I remember first joining FFXIV because I constantly heard they didn't really do the typical "same armour on man is a bikini on women" type of thing, and that men could even be skimpy if they wanted. It goes much further than cosmetics (though that's certainly part of it) in that it's so obnoxiously typical of games to make the man a visual powerhouse and the woman some eye candy for the male players.

As for female viera, they are a pre existing race which has been in the game cannonicly since the beginning(i remember a cutscene with them in a parade ver 1) and thier appearance was defined since before the game. They are also only "eye candy" by certain cultures definition. they slim and are lanky, with non human feet. Whether that is considered eye candy is entirely personal. For many people eye candy is short curvy women.

Roedadyn, Highlander, and au'ra are all very large and beefy(and furry roegadyns now). Miqo'te and Midlander are built but not outside of the "medium" range. Elezen is a little more lithe while still being kinda bulky. And lalafells are just fat chibis.

Big men aren't underrepresented. Slender and more lithe males are underrepresented. Only Elezen are remotely near that category of lithe

That's a good point. Without community outrage like we are seeing now, she wouldn't even be able to play her race. Community outrage got us female roes and male miqo.

These races are homages to the originals that they were based off of: Ronso and 12's Fran.

Stop using buzzwords you have no business of using because you're talking with feelings rather than logic right now.

They're called Ronso in Japan. Homages don't have to look EXACTLY like their original counterparts. That's not what homages are. They're made with the inspiration of the original in mind.

The one who is way off base is the person thinking that "homage" means direct carbon copies.

They're called Hrothgar in Japanese too. They're called "Ronso" for everyone (English, Japanese, etc) in the First world (the shard of Hydaelyn we will be going to).

Yea, I know. If the first name is such a pain to say though, they should have just stuck with one option really. People are just going to call them XIV's version of Ronso honestly, it's the lesser of two evils to say.
