Gender locking the races just seems like such a poor, lazy business choice.
Didn't they try that in 1.0, and it didn't exactly go well? Why repeat mistakes of the past? Lore or not, it's such a poor move.

1.0 didn't fail because because of gender locked races. It failed because it was bad.
Never said it failed for that reason. It was a factor in people being unhappy though, and those things added up to the game not doing well.
Now we don't have all the other bad things to focus on, so the gender locking is going to become a bigger spot light issue people are going to be upset about.

Really disappointed in this decision. Gender locking was said to be a thing of the past, and basing it off "We haven't seen male viera before" Well that's basically the same reason as Male Miqo'te. But they're a playable gender.
Both races have both males and females. So why are they making them monogendered. This is just such a disappointment especially as people have been clambering for Viera for ages (2.0 at least!). And Ronso is only a recent idea comparatively.
Sure, we have a lot of customization for them 'apparently' But honestly that seems like a poor excuse when you think about it. They could have given the same amount of customization across two genders instead of a single gender with twice the amount.
I'm more upset with the fact that the developers went back on their word about no longer gender locking races after 1.0. It seems like a common theme these days for people to get their hopes up about something exciting and then the company giving them the bare minimum and leaving what was wanted out.
If certainly people wanted to play a male viera? they sure won't make a ronzo. They'll stay as their current race. If they wanted to play a female ronzo? They might go to viera, but honestly on the whole Ronzo just... doesn't work lore wise.
Not even joking. It goes against the lore to have Ronzo. They're openly a beast tribe. you can't even suggest otherwise. Beast tribes canonically can't be understood by people without the echo unless they specifically focus on learning the language, along with them being excempt from Hydalyns blessing. So what's next. Do we get to have Goblin WoL's? Oh maybe Amal'jah. After all, we already got Lalafell and they've just been confirmed to be subhuman if things shifted ever so slightly.
They used lore as an excuse to not include playable male Viera, but the real reason is because they didn't want to, and they shaped the lore in a way to explain that. Female Hrothgar (a.k.a Ronso) exist, so why would they make Hrothgar male only?
Hopefully fans will be able to convince them to eventually create playable male Viera and playable female Hrothgar. There's no need to genderlock them.

Indeed, that's the only thing left at this point with regards to the new races...They used lore as an excuse to not include playable male Viera, but the real reason is because they didn't want to, and they shaped the lore in a way to explain that. Female Hrothgar (a.k.a Ronso) exist, so why would they make Hrothgar male only?

When the game's story becomes self-aware:

Of all the problems 1.0 had, you're going to cherry pick genderlocked races?
