I just can't get how Veria would have made it past the concept stage if they can not make males.
They likely see it as a 'compromise'. Fulfilling some of the wishes without going completely against their plans. In this case, he shouldnt of showed male bun artwork during FATE in tokyo. I believe its the reason he didnt wsnt to show them in first place, it would put people in mind - when they request Viera as new race, they expect male too.
If that was his vision already back then, I would of asked him why he didnt just skip Viera completely and work on a full new race with M +F version.
And if he tells me because people requested it now for 4 years, then same applies that people been asking for M+F playable Viera race.
This is what they did with BLU, 'adding it as a limited job is better than no Blue Mage at all'.

And thats why bluemage is succesful.
Edit: no offense against you, I get your points. But I would be disappointed if the Dev Team/YoshiP would come up with such arguments..

To be fair, people are gonna be upset no matter what they say. Like, people just want bun boys or don't. Nothing else to it lol
The fact that another option (Hrothgar) has reared it's head, is what's causing the controversy really.
Before, there was no reason to not want male Viera. If you didn't want to be a Viera, you just didn't change to one.
But now Hrothgar have appeared, it's another carrot to reach for, and with dev resources being finite, it's likely a choice between the two.
Creating a new race is a lot of work, having to make male and femele is work X2
Most of the races literally have the same propotions. The only difference is the head and unique animations.

It would be more work to create a female viera and a male hrothgar, assuming they are unique races. Assuming the male viera look like the previously released concept art, then the males and females have a lot of physical traits in common. So there would be a lot of design overlap when creating them. This is not the case when doing two unique races even if they're only one gender each.
