Gender locked race?

Might not be a popular sentiment in this thread but the addition of male Viera and female Hrothgar for 6.0 won't be anywhere near as sub inducing as the current female Viera and male Hrothgar are for 5.0. It's going to be interesting to see if SE actually decides to make those for what I think is a relatively small population who really wants them.

This is true... But not because its a very small minority who would play them, but because "Here's new variants of the current races" doesn't sell to new players. Its pretty obvious from the Male Miqote numbers that male Viera would have a strong playerbase though, to me that makes it desirable as an addition for the playerbase. If they end up played only 1/4 as much as catboys they'd still outnumber fem-elezen and fem-roes, player options that were presumably desirable enough to implement.

I think we might see male viera and female hrotgar much sooner than expected, considering that ffxiv team can now use this to tell SE that they need help and if they help them they can earn so much money. That being said, if they actually wanted, SE could give us 2 full races at launch, although I don't really think it's gonna happen, my bet is that maybe they remove 1 genderlock at a time, 1 at 5.1, then another one at 5.1.5 or 5.2

That's very unrealistic expectations. If they were to release the other genders to the races during a patch, 5.5 would be the earliest to expect them. 6.0 would be the more realistic and, in my opinion, best time to release them. I would not be happy if adding the opposite genders during a patch means something else has to be sacrificed.

Right now they're likely working on finalising everything in the expansion, making sure everything works and such. After that releases, they'll likely go on vacation before getting to work on 5.1, which is likely when they'll start working on the female Hrothgar and male Viera.

Not sure how long it will take but I'm glad that the thread is being bumped with new art and stuff. That's how I hoped things would happen, art and quest ideas.

Something peaceful and a bit productive, rather than some of the other possible ways to do it lol. It'll be interesting to see if the next live letter or some other event will cover this topic. I wouldn't worry too much until Shadowbringer start date passes by a bit, after that if no lick of information comes by then it's a bit like how it was with summoner.. just sort of pray . To note later demi/ahk-morn were delivered and it was awesome~.

That's a myth. There's been significant demand for a more bestial playable race for quite some time. Many rival MMO's also have multiple playable races that can be described as bestial on offer. WoW and ESO are two of the most worthy of note, as they're FFXIV's current main rivals. I know GW2 has at least one bestial race too.

The aesthetics that most people desire for Viera men are already readily available. They offer nothing unique compared to Hrothgar as the only real distinct feature would be that they have bunny ears rather than human, cat or elf ears.

This is what I've been trying to relay to people for a long time now.
Male Viera don't actually add anything new to the pool. We have 2 tall, thin, elegant "handsome male" races already and they'd be asking people to either convert from the Elezen just for bunny ears or leave all the cool parts of Scaley Bois for bunny ears.

Don't really get the notion that cat bois population means anything to male Viera, who would be closer to Elezen in body shape. Most of the people I've seen who say they want to convert to Hrothgar are cat bois who "wanna become cat MEN" and only really settled on cat bois cause that's the only fur option. Same for people who went scaley boi cause it was the most beastly option.

I also think gear is gonna look great on them because of their body shape.

It is an accurate assessment and fair request to want a distinctive, different-looking race. However, if it is distinction the devs were truly striving for, don't you agree that a Wolfman race or Lizardman race--or any other animal race--would be more distinctive than adding ANOTHER cat race? In regards to Viera aesthetics, I think I speak for many people who have devoted years to this game (myself included) when I say we were really just utterly shocked when they excluded racial genders again! Even after they admitted they made a mistake in 1.0. they've made the mistake again. It has nothing to do with being entitled, making demands, or being unappreciative. It's just baffling that they've made this decision again.
