Right before the expansion... nice.
Right before the expansion... nice.

thank god it is before the expansion. depending how things turn out i might not buy the expansion(cancel preorder) and stop playing ffxiv. if it was after the expansion i would have wasted my money on bying it.
Yeah, if I'm forced to use Steam to launch the game henceforth I'm just cancelling my subscription and calling it. I've endured a lot with FFXIV through the years but I've never let my subscription lapse. Being locked into the Steam marketplace for expansions was bad enough, but having to launch through Steam to play is a complete deal breaker for me.
More or less what I'm thinking at the moment. I have every job at 70 currently.... doing that again is not going to happen. Either SE produces a solution, or I'm done with the game if there are issues.
you know the account is universal right? You can use the same login and password, you just need to buy a new client.
That's part of the issue, both general PC and Steam-specific codes are "Windows" licenses. If you have one registered to your service account you flat out can't register the other.
Many of the affected folks would just buy the game again to have a license that is not tied to Steam but as things currently are they can't.
That is a problem but if SE will allow steam folk to register a pc client key it should be solve right?

Yes, but there's no indication they plan to let us do that (and that's ignoring why should we even have to buy it again since when it was first released on Steam back with 2.1 we had no idea we would have to buy expansions on Steam or that now we'd be forced to run the game through Steam).
Yes, please.
What's a melee DPS?

This exactly. When I originally purchased FFXIV, ARR was the only version. When Heavensward came out, I purchased it on the SE store not knowing that I was required to get it through Steam. Now, years later, I'm now going to be forced to use Steam's servers just to log in. If I knew way back then that all this was going to happen, I would've never purchased FFXIV on Steam in the first place. As I've seen someone say in another thread, if Square goes through with this and does not offer Steam users a way out (while preserving characters) of being tied to Steam and keeps the game subscription based without compensation if the Steam servers goes down, it'll be incredibly consumer unfriendly and will remove a large chunk of their Steam subscribers.Yes, but there's no indication they plan to let us do that (and that's ignoring why should we even have to buy it again since when it was first released on Steam back with 2.1 we had no idea we would have to buy expansions on Steam or that now we'd be forced to run the game through Steam).
