Theoretically, yes.

Realistically, the switch is prone to getting stuck partway - sometimes visibly, more often something in the internal mechanism that doesn't align with where the switch appears to be set.

in the game weve established it wouldnt work. lets not get into the finer workings of gender identity theory. especially since as i initially stated its all subjective and based on the misguided premise that sex and gender are synonymous.

a "genderless" race just wont happen. for coding reasons like previously stated by you and others, and other reasons im sure that have already been suggested as well.

slang doesnt make it synonymous. sex is what you were born as, gender is your role in society. the entire argument of gender identity can be resolved by making a clear distinction between these two terms as both sides are correct. if you have male genitalia you are a male, but your mind is not constrained to biology and you can "feel" like whatever you want.

i dont see that happening, maybe an android type character like nier automata, but still gender based. i dont see them making any characters that are as non humanoid as monsters, because then thered be the issue of how to discern between these and actual monsters in the lore. theres a lot of discrimination even towards the beast tribes, let alone actual monsters like slimes, golems, and the like.

the difference would be that the npcs wouldnt be able to tell the difference, thered be a nationwide panic everytime a slime person tried to go to the market... an enemy lalafel is only an enemy because theyre either bandits or imperials, its not like you have to wonder if the lalafel is gonna bite you or something. it would have to be a relatively new race, which means if its too monstrous looking the eorzians wouldnt accept them.

theres a law in uldah that bans goblins from the city, some beast tribes are accepted in some small circles but for the most part, someone sees a goblin, sahagin, amool ja etc theyre going to kill them, and because of the general perception of beast tribes as "monsters" there will be no laws to protect them. in fact there will be laws against them.
