This sort of reminds me of a Tam-tara I ran a week or two ago with Daughter. We were the DPS that day. We had a new tank and healer, and the healer didn't cast Protect (ironic, considering I'd forgotten to cast it on a recent Halatali run!). I remind her to do so. I recall also mentioning about not needing to medica when only the tank had a small scratch. A few mobs later, I get a response: "hi! we're both new." Yes. Yes, I know you are. It's okay. Just listen to what I'm telling you and please cast Protect. It'll make things a little bit nicer in the run. A few moments later: "it's on the bar so it must be on," she says (or something to that effect). I really wanted to explain it didn't work like that, but in amongst all of this, the tank is just running ahead, and my daughter is trying to help out by sticking with him and the healer's off after them as well. I decide it's not worth it and we'll just do it without and I'll look after my kid above the both of them. Told daughter to keep up her damage, and I'll do the same. This got rocky a few times as the tank's aggro management was that of a new tank not using all the skills, but I'd also told him how to grab and hold aggro, and I think he was trying, sort of. Got through it, but it was the roughest run of that little dungeon I've had for a while, and I know that healer gave herself more work than was necessary.
I felt super bad afterwards. I knew I should've stopped up again and really tried to explain but it's hard when people just run ahead without paying attention. Think I have to do better if that sort of thing happens again.
Also, just did Steps of Faith with the family, and half of the rest of the group is first-timing it too in addition to Daughter. Hubby is tanking, I'm BRD, Daughter is BLM. Hubby asks at the start who wants to take care of dragon killer, cannons.. and gets no response and the rest of the party running for Vishap. Ended up with those aforementioned mechanics being divided up between me and him and we had one healer and I think another DPS that kept checking in on us. Hubby did the two snares by himself, I did some cannon and then dragon killers. We got through, even with our sprouts attacking all the adds and the other tank not bringing them up as cannon fodder. Somehow, they all managed to keep it together up Vishap's backside, but again, I really wished we'd discussed tactics properly for them before things kicked off. I feel like I've let them down somehow, because maybe it'll become problematic for them (and/or others with them) in the future.![]()
