I'm just disappointed that there are male viera at all, even in the lore. I'm still excited regardless, and will be even if there are male viera, but I always like playing races in RPG's that are female-only if they're available.

The issue with the Viera, in my opinion, is less that they've been traditionally female only, and more that they're designed with sex appeal in mind... and are female only.
Nobody would complain about a race being female-only if it wasn't attractive... (see: D&D Hags.)

Sounds good may I suggest you go play Tera instead of FFXIV then? Here in FFXIV we're not about that regressive mentality thanks
I disagree.
Female-only, male-only... Lolicon-only...
All of it would get complaints unless there were lore grounds as to why alternative genders don't exist at all.
For example, asexual reproduction could be a reason why a particular race is single "Gender". Or alternative means of reproduction (Such as Mass Effect's Asari which can reproduce with any gender of any race).
Viera has the fact that males exist established. Whether they're "Rare to see" or not doesn't matter. They exist and thus there's a likelyhood that some can go against societal norms and start adventuring.
If male Viera had not been confirmed to exist, or been confirmed to NOT exist then it'd be a different matter and likely would be less complaints about Viera being a potential Female-only race (With complaints likely moving over towards arguments surrounding a suitable Male-only race to counterbalance them)
TL;DR: If males and females exist in a playable race, both must be playable as well?I disagree.

If the lore doesn't support male Viera being adventurers, it doesn't, and whether or not there's a strong enough argument for male Viera adventurers is up to the developers to decide. Unfortunately, this isn't a tabletop game where you can haggle with the GM to make your special snowflake fit into the story. (Or: "Hey, DM, can I play a red half-dragon after we finish this module?")
Honestly, I don't see them not introducing playable male Viera... but I don't care about the introduction of Viera at all, so whatever.
Now I'm going to go cry in a corner because my efforts to get Moriarty, one of only 3 characters I genuinely want in F/GO, have been for naught... so far....

I think if the lore for any race in any setting involves institutionalized sexism with a 100% compliance rate, it's just kind of fundamentally weird and unrealistic. Any tradition, no matter how old/noble/whatever, will always have outliers emerge as a natural byproduct of self-determination. It's how society develops to begin with.
Unfortunately, the lore (this is still the Lore forum) is indeed pointing towards exactly that, and may even do so for a second, male-only race as well. I'd like to believe they know that pulling another blatantly sexist Mithra/Galka split will trigger a ninth Calamity, so at this point I'm really just hoping that the [REDACTED] have enough of what people would want from male Viera to satisfy that particular demand.
Is Japan Fanfest really still a month out? I don't remember Heavensward or Stormblood killing me with the waiting like this...
I got his NP2 when that chapter hit JP servers, and didn't get ShinShin at the time. FGO's limited banners are the actual worst. After blowing my anniversary Quartz (close to 100 rolls) failing to get Skadi, I'm on break until Muramasa and/or Galahad come out.

Like I said, I honestly do not see them pulling a male-only/female-only race debacle. The developers have to know that some amount of the player base will be deeply upset by such a thing. Bunny boiz will probably be a thing, regardless of what a piece of internal data shows. I agree that to make a male/female-only playable race is backwards... but... you know, if the lore doesn't support one gender or another being adventurers, that's the developers' creative decision. (And adds to the whole "fantasy" feel - yeah, it's unrealistic, but then again a lot of what happens in Final Fantasy games is unrealistic.)
... really though, the fact certain parts of the fanbase will have a conniption unless male Viera are playable is probably enough to ensure they are, regardless of whatever a piece of internal data says. Models just not ready for Paris Fanfest, yada yada yada...
Again, I don't care one way or another - I'm invested in neither Ivalice nor the Viera. I'm just saying if the lore doesn't support male Viera adventurers and they aren't playable as a result, that's the creative team's decision whether people like it or not. Whatever comes from that, if it comes to that... well, I dunno.
I just want Moriarty, Ereshkigal, and Jeanne Alter. Unfortunately my S+ Luck has failed me, but fortunately Moriarty's banner will get a rerun in a few months and Ereshkigal and Jeanne Alter aren't until the end of this year / beginning of next year on the NA server. (Well, Jeanne Alter's rerun.) Currently stuck in Babylonia - story's very good, but a bit more time-consuming than I really want to spend on a mobile game. Ereshkigal's main focus chapter made me understand why people like her so much though.
I'll... "try" again for him over the weekend. In the meantime Legendary Roy comes out soon in FEH, and I've saved up a bit... hopefully I can get 2 and one with a good IV to iron out his weakness...

At this point, I just want them in, and to look aesthetically palatable. Whether their starter outfit includes heels or not, I'll leave that for others to muse about.
One could take the way you posed that question and throw it right back at you.
Why do Viera have to be female only?
Basically, as long as you get to play your waifus, you're happy - how is that not hypocritical?

When the game's story becomes self-aware:
The main outrage would come from the fact that similar lore decisions have been ignored in the past, IMO, for races like the Roegadyn and Miqo'te. Making an exception to change that at this point is bound to make people angry, since people typically don't really like their expectations being challenged too much.
