I hope there is some actual connection between SCH/Nymians and the pixies of Il Mheg, and that Shadowbringers will let us explore it in our job quest. When they showed the pixies at fanfest I instantly started to wonder how they're going to fit in, given Scholar fairies already being a thing and looking pretty much exactly the same.

I don't know from which perspective you're talking about, but from the class effectivness part, they absolutely didn't.

We just got Aetherpact,Chain Stratagem and Exco, while they are ok, they didn't change how SCH plays compared to HW, it's pretty much the same job and feels boring if you have been playing SCH for four years.

And AST's shields are still stronger, for some reason.

Ast shields are stronger because it's all it has compared to scholar ton of oGCD including the fairy.
Plus, when people complained about what they've made to SCH at 4.0, they quickly reacted.

Miasma II for aoe, reduced adlo and succor mp cost (+ succor shield being 150%), changed aetherflow trait to be a guaranted -5s each AF stack used, fairy being more responsive, sacred soil being effective once used at time 0, excog exploding even if not triggered by the -50% requirement + increased to 800 potency, emergency tactics CD reduced to 20s, indom buffed to 500 potency

Base playstyle may have not changed that much, but we've definitly not been forgotton when people asked for changes.
That's a lot of adjusment they made, compared to other classes who won't see any revamp until SHB.
