The fact that they're listed between Au ra and Viera is the interesting part, because it implies they were getting worked on before the coding to accommodate Viera started, and makes me wonder if they were content that ended up not being ready in time for Stormblood and have been getting worked on since 3.XX.
I don't think you can base much on that. It's likely just a copy-paste job to add them and they could have just been added at the same time, and they could have just happened to be adding them in alphabetical order or something.

    Male Viera Lore

I think it's safe to say that the lore would support a pretty good range of male viera appearances. Since we've never seen them, and the lore is rather vague, they could really vary between feminine and masculine. Obviously, ignoring the fact that we shouldn't see them, like Miq'ote males, there's some real variance that might happen.

According to Viera lore, the males are indistinguishable from females until around 13, this means they COULD end up looking very feminine into older ages as well, if still not quite as feminine as females. On the other hand, most are considered, and consider themselves, outcasts from their matriarchal villages. This leads most, if not all of them, to lead a rather feral and secluded lifestyle in defense of the forests they call home. This COULD result in many of them looking quite masculine and rugged.

I'm not going to be surprised if SE goes with either of these options really, and I would be pleasantly surprised if they implemented both somehow, as I really enjoy both ideas personally. If I had to pick one I'd probably be most happy with a more feminine and lithe male design though, as it's not really something we've seen explored as much.

I'm not sure that "outcast" is really the right word to use. They leave voluntarily (in most cases, anyway; I could certainly see some being resentful of what is expected of them), there's no enmity involved - it's just tradition. They're even welcome BACK to the villages, under the right circumstances (for breeding).

Also wouldn't say "most". It seems clear that ALL males are required to leave, as soon as there's an older male available to apprentice them.

Of course, all this goes out the window if you're talking about city-dwelling Viera, males and females alike. They've explicitly left their traditions behind, so for them, anything is possible!

What I want is something between male Elezen and Miqo'te (though I'd at least make a retainer for something between male Lala and Miqo'te), but what we will probably be getting is something between Highlander and Roegadyn, in order to pull in more of the hyper-masculine escapist crowd from WoW and similar games. Having surrendered to curiosity and looked into the aforementioned bug, I can't imagine that name being applied to anything else.

Actually if anything this is where the lore has loopholes about seeing males.

Males come down to mate every few years and pick up any juvenile males that are in said village. So exactly how many males are out there? Because it DOES leave a timeframe where young males can be seen. It just happens that no one living that isn't Viera has seen one to describe them at least?

Also what about dead male Viera, do they watch the bodies closely? Accidents and circumstances happen where you'd have a dead body...are they immediately burned, buried? How are they disposed of to keep people from seeing what a male looks like?

On another note the patch has of course removed references of the two races that are not here at present time of the game (in the French version). Guess we'll now have to wait till Fanfest to see what will be the outcome.

Yeah I agree, for the most part. I mostly just put the "most" since there's always outliers in any race's situation, and it's a very common trope in fact. I wouldn't be surprised at all if their were a male viera or two that were unhappy with their situation, or simply left the forest.

Don't the Au Ra males already fit between Highlander and Roe pretty well? Size-wise at the very least.

Au Ra males fit between Elezen males and Roegadyn males. Highlander males are the same heights as Elezen females. Fran herself, not counting her ears, is about half a head shorter than Haurchefant, who is a 75 on the height scale. I'd say Viera females will be the same as Elezen females on average.
