Freyt's point was, outside of Drakengard 2 which didn't have Taro on the team, you could play any DrakenNieR game without playing any of the others and still get enjoyment out of it (well, story wise atleast for Drakengard and when the framerate isn't bad for Drakengard 3). But you do get MORE enjoyment for NieR if you know Drakengard's story, and the same for Automata if you know NieR and Drakengard's story.

2.) The only difference between NieR Gestalt and Replicant is in relation to Nier's age and thus relationship with Yonah and certain character development from before and after the timeskip. Otherwise its essentially the same game. While Replicant is PROBABLY the canonish one, Automata does reference both versions.

First off, Replicant is the canon... not probably... and was released mainly in Japan.

Gesalt on the other hand was created with an older looking main character so as to cater to the US and mature audiences on the overseas market. One of the premise being that the younger version of Nier may not be palatable to the audiences who prefered to have hulk-sized main characters as seen in games like Gears of War.

This also explains why the story had to be "adjusted" to reflect Yohna as the daughter and not the sister. There were also other minor dynamics within the tale that were changed but nothing exceptionally mind bending... I personally played both and found Replicant slightly more enjoyable. And darn it, I was so busy speed typing that I just realized I wrote "Replica" instead of "Replicant" in almost all the instances in my previous post. Little matter... you get the idea.

Secondly, I was directly responding to Freyt's comment that "Automata seems the most disconnected of them all in my foolish opinion". That was the basis for my explanations above including the link I provided for the video which helped explain the lore connection for Automata to the other tales.

And what are you on about framerates for the Drakengard 3 game? I believe it was a PS3 exclusive and it ran smoothly on both my PS3s (the original 60 gigs fat and the slim)... so what areas of the game exactly did you experience framerates issues?

Drakengard 2 plays off events as if Drakengard 1 never happened. You'll know more about the world and why certain characters are relevant, but you don't have to play Drakengard 1 to get the "full" experience out of Drakengard 2.

And Drakengard 3 did have framerate issues. I never felt they were as bad as people were saying, but it definitely had them. That's from a best in the biz backwards compatible ps3. I'm not sure you actually played the games instead of simply reading about the story? You're naturally going to feel the story is much more involved when you read up on it.

Quite bluntly, even though Manah is in D2, her past is rarely mentioned and isn't relevant. In D3 it's even worse. NieR barely takes place in the same world, and NieR: Automata is so far off that the one returning character doesn't give a shit anymore, even though somehow Kaine's house survived for all that time.

Also, Old Man NieR is Taro approved.

Three things...

One, there is no need to swear in your post... it's immature, I absolutely abhor it and ironically, it makes you sound obtuse.

Two, I have been a fan of the series since 2004, have indeed played every single one of those games and obtained their various endings... and for Automata, I got all 26 endings and my PSN trophy stands at 91% completion. I had initially thought I got just 21 endings but I just checked my backup saves and realized I did in fact get all 26... a backup is necessary because one of the endings deletes your saves. Making comments that I didn't play the games is just you exhibiting petulance.

Three, if you had framerates issues, that's unfortunate... my post above categorically explains that I personally didn't have them and any real PS3 expert is well aware that there are certain methods for fixing that. Besides, framerate issues was not the foundation of this discussion ...(at least until someone else brought it up)... but rather how to reconcile the storyline of Automata with the other games.

You missed their point. They weren't actually challenging your claims about you playing these games. It was a rhetorical question.
It was meant to highlight the fact that you were being pedantic about someone 'swearing' while also claiming to be a fan of Drakengard and NieR games which have their own lot of swearing which you seem to hate so much.

Also, if you can't stand one single 'bad word' being used in a very common expression... I recommand avoiding video game forums where colloquialism is quite common.

There was nothing rhetorical about that question, it was clearly direct... so shelve that argument, you're simply arriving at your own assumptions. Also, the baseless use of obscenities is actually against this forum's rules... I likewise recommend and invite you to actually have a read. Ironically, I know how to swear very fluently in all four languages I speak... however, refraining from swearing on these forums is one of the elements that separates us from most of the other chaotic gaming forums out there.
