Matoya is probably in her body, as Y'stola is currently unconscious. I don't think Matoya is a title as she and Louisoux go way back and she was always referred to as Matoya. It's much more likely that while the scions are "called", Matoya transfers her soul into Ystola's body via some similar process as the Garleans new technology.

You can't base it on her being "currently" unconscious. This isn't happening in current time - it's beyond the next story patch and into the next expansion.

More importantly, Urianger is also currently unconscious, but he's apparently recovered by whatever time that scene takes place.

That's why i think what i have said could make sense in that it is a dark version of them or alternate reality but Matoya could also have inhibited her body (which was the first thing i had said)

I assumed that Matoya was controlling Yshtola's body for some reason honestly as well. Maybe as a means to keep her alive (Matoya just about views Yshtola as a daughter if anything, even if she wont say as much. Their bond is pretty close if not familial.) Also makes me thing that unfortunately, by the end of the xpac Matoya might end up dying as a means to save Yshtola. Who knows though. Looking forward to finding out.

They are completely different in that red mages are fencers that support themselves with lesser spells of black and white magic, while sages are mages that use the upper echelons of those schools.

Basically a red mage is "good in three" while sage is "great in two".

Of course, in Tactics Advance, the biggest utility of Red Mage was "learn Dualcast, ditch into the ether". Red Magic itself was only decent as a support category for a melee class if you wanted them to both supplement in damage at range and healing. They couldn't do either too well though and they were mediocre in melee too.

My main justification is the quibble regarding Matoya... during the Alexander story arc, I realized the extensive depth of her work with time manipulation. Plus, I respect that lovely old hag because she was powerful (and knowledgeable) enough to be Louisoix's rival.

Actually, lava is just really hot melted rock. So it would be potentially within the realm of FFXIV geomancy (and conjury for that matter) to be able to control it - though they may need access to natural lava to use it.
