You all need to wake up if this is too human for you.
They are NOT going to make a beastmen race. They have made that clear. You're not getting yourself a wolf head or a beak. Now if anything that has 2 arms and 2 legs and stands upright with a flat face is too human for your liking then no new race will ever be different enough for you.
you sound really mad and make some wild assumption just because i answered ops questionYou all need to wake up if this is too human for you.

If you check how Lupin ended up as "beastman" tribe then I'd also not prefer anything that doesnt have an human skeleton.
Their fur texture is just bad, the face shape would be awful to customize. Hairstyles? Well could look interesting but we already have clipping issues and Im pretty sure stuffing a wolf head into level 30 tin armor would end up looking stupid af.
ok? you know other mmos exist beside ffxiv right? They manage also put up races that are not basiacly 3 flavours of cat girls. I dont know why the other guy even latched on "beast" without me mentioning it and you also.If you check how Lupin ended up as "beastman" tribe then I'd also not prefer anything that doesnt have an human skeleton.

As much as I love Ivalice I am going to remain a Roe. Especially if Dancer is in the expansion. I can't wait for my party to be 3 catgirls followed by a hulking Roe in spandex boogying and shimmying through the dungeon.
Those races are also the least played by a huge margin and have a ton of clipping issues on any armor that's not specifically made for them.
The thing about FFXIV, though, is that the main storyline clearly features a division between the player races and the beastman races. If a non-human race is added, either the entire storyline needs to be rewritten for them, or some other explanation needs to be added as to why this particular non-human race doesn't count as "beastman".
This is the primary reason why it is very doubtful that we'll ever have a player race that truly looks inhuman. We'll get tall humans, burly humans, childlike humans, humans with a few animal bits on, but always, always humans.
Other MMOs don't have this problem, because they DON'T have humans vs inhumans as a primary storyline driver - or, at least, when they do, they design it that way from the ground up and make it a primary gameplay feature with two separate storylines (such as human faction vs orc faction in WoW).

WoW's primary "ugly, but not too ugly" races are fairly well played - for being ugly.
It's definitely true pretty races get played more but imo SE has no really ugly (maybe it should be "different" than ugly but yeah..) / beast. Roe may vaguely pass that, but imo not at least in comparison to what I think of as such when thinking of other games (so.. maybe some people think we do already). I thought Au Ra might be that from concept art but I don't think so from what is currently available.
Anyway while I agree pretty, cute, standard = more popular I feel that the argument isn't as good in preventing ugly/beast at the moment because there is either only 1 or 0 (0 imo) races that meet that standard -meaning there is currently a void for one type of description and many for the other (the cute race population is going to share space with Viera when it comes out).
