Can any WoW refugees explain the exodus to XIV to me?

That's true, I'd forgotten the time I entered BFA's first raid tier day one and got a Warforged weapon to drop, decent weapons being very hard to come by. I was quite happy with that. Blizzard actually hotfixed that weapon overnight, after the raid release and full beta testing, into glamour item with no stats because they wanted that specific one to be glamour. Just out the blue.

The outcry over that one was crazy... can you imagine getting lucky on a savage BiS item and next day Enix had decided to turn it into glamour?

As of getting hit with that on my Warrior, yep.

Like, there are so many of WoW's flaws that will seem exaggerated to any given individual, but when something like that hits someone, or the only talent build they really like on the only class/spec they feel like maining gets nerfed into unusability (this more true in Legion, admittedly)... it's just hard to quantify on their behalf until something similar's happened to you as well.

There are plenty of things I dislike about BFA and I've long since cancelled my subscription to WoW over them however that weapon your referring to was bugged, its stats were mimicing the actual weapon drop, and was fixed. It wasnt as if Blizzard decided out of the blue to change it. They even relented to the backlash and anyone who looted it prior to the fix got to keep its bugged stats.

Any Khor, Hammer of the Guardians that dropped prior to the hotfix that fixed the bugged stats were reverted to their prehotfixed stats, per a statement released by Ornyx on September 6, 2018. Any Hammer of the Guardians that dropped after the hotfix won't be reverted. If yours was somehow skipped you can file a ticket with customer support to have it changed. They can see when your hammer dropped to verify.

I don't see what there is to defend, they'd never done a stat-less glamour weapon as raid loot in the history of the game, the weapon model was simply an ugly re-colour of an existing weapon, the weapon had stats the entire way through beta testing and it was only reverted after about 700 pages of outcry. The point is that a well made game doesn't make blunders or unnecessary decisions like that, while a neglected one does.

Bugs are to be expected, sure. That's a given. What Blizzard essentially did with BfA though was release it both unfinished and unpolished. And it showed. Still shows, actually.

I may not like a handful of the class design and story choices, to the point I chose to unsub, but I could never get behind the whole "unfinished and unpolished" forum angst movement as the game seems no more or less unfinished and unpolished than it has been for the last 9+ years. Still can't.

I played WoW from vanilla up through Legion. At some point during that time I gave FFXIV a shot and really enjoyed it... but shortly after finally hitting 50 and getting my Gae Bolg my co-workers stopped playing so I went back to WoW.

Why I left WoW:
-getting difficult to justify subscription cost
-wife's MAC could no longer run the game
-didn't want to part with the artifact weapon I spent so long improving

Why I came to FFXIV:
-wife's MAC could run the game
-I've long loved the FF franchise since FF (NES)
-we could play up to lv35 in every class for as long we wanted for free
-wife wasn't interested in: SW:TOR, GW, or DCU

Since crossing over to FFXIV from WoW with my wife, she has pretty much stopped playing due to lack of interest and a busy schedule keeping up with a Master's class...meanwhile I ditched my dummy trial account and re-subscribed my old account

What keeps me playing FFXIV:
-being able to play every class/job on one character
-a MSQ exists (and I'm only, like, halfway through Heavensward at the moment)
-the squadron mechanic thing where I can run a dungeon with my 3 recruit AI NPCs
-the "fantasy" around recruiting your followers and training them up
-gorgeous animations/graphics
-customizable HUD
-having a hero in the world of Final Fantasy
-all of the classes feel super cool
-driving around a majitek suit blaring the FF3/6 overworld theme
-crafting is involved and is mechanically the best in any MMO I've tried
-player housing
-You can retire to an "inn" and sleeping on the bed logs you out

What I miss from WoW:
-short GCDs
-Map aesthetic/UI
-standard names of things (dungeon instead of duty, etc)
-group sizes (5man, 10man, etc)

What I miss from SW:TOR
-player character has a voice and dialogue
-dialogue options which can lead your character down a "good" or "evil" or "neutral" path

My opinion has nothing to do with the forums. It is my observation and recollection of how past expansions have started.
