Will the wol / wod ever ‘main’ a healer class?

Long answer: We, healers, will never get our time in the spotlight. We got some bone thrown at Stormblood, with the game finally recognizing you're playing as healer job at one specific quest. And that is it.

And that is because healers doesn't sell expansions. DPS and tanks does.

It's not because healers don't sell expansions, with the possible exception of Red Mage, trailer WoL will likely never be a caster DPS either. Wizards throwing fireballs, summoning monsters and dropping meteors on people is definitely the sort of sexy CGI that could shift expansions though.

The trailer WoL is always a mobile class/job, they basically spend the trailers bouncing around all over the place. Standing at the back casting spells doesn't fit with the active 'leader/main character' aesthetic they seem to prefer using for the trailer WoL.

That's why they're not a healer (or caster) IMHO. Although brief flashes of casting jobs are still a possibility I just don't seem them making a job like that the full focus of a trailer.

Well, to be fair, the WoL appears as a Dragoon looking awesome in the Heavensward intro but you don't see him fight. They could do something similar. If the context in the trailer looks cool enough, the WoL doesn't have to do anything to look awesome (it's almost the same with Dark Knight in the ShB trailer, he mostly stands there looking cool).

In the Stormblood trailer, we got to see WoL as both MNK and SAM.
We've seen DRK already, there's no reason we wont get another part of the trailer with WoL as one of the new jobs.
The gunblade has already been covered by Thancred, so perhaps Dancer?

The Derplander seems to have an affinity for melee jobs, other than his initial job as Archer, which was when he was very young.

He was a tank for ARR. Worn out memes aside, Warrior is not a DPS.

If you want to use memes for this conversation, he was a Dragoon for Heavensward and Dragoons tank floors.

Yeah, as I said I could see them doing a brief flash of healing/casting job, I don't think they'll be a main focus of a trailer though. Even in the HW one where the dragoon WoL himself doesn't do a great deal, it's still full of other dragoons leaping all over the place.

Would have been cool if they'd squeezed in a brief change to WHM in the 5.0 trailer, throwing out a protect or something in an attempt to block a blow, wouldn't have really fit with the whole 'cycling through the jobs WoL has previously taken in trailers' thing that they had going on though.

I think that was only done in Stormblood to sell the two regions of Ala Mhigo and Doma.
Shadowbringers is probably going to be a unified story rather than split like last time, so I'd be surprised if we see the WoL switching jobs.

What tends to ruffles my feathers a bit is there are some NPC dialogue where they say something along the lines of needing a healer, or going to take someone to a healer and I'm like, "THERES A FREAKIN HEALER STANDING RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!" It makes me feel a bit inadequate despite the fact that I've saved so many asses both in and out of story mode.

I also call BS on the poster job needing to be a melee or a tank. They can totally do movies of a healer kicking ass on the frontlines if they just use their imagination. Instead we get tossed a bone at the beginning of 4.0. I threw it back.
