When Samurai was first teased, I was a strong advocate for it being a Tank on merit of the real world lore of the job and it's romanticized lore connected to Bushido.
Samurai (or Bushi) were the warriors of pre-modern Japan. They later made up the ruling military class that eventually became the highest ranking social caste of the Edo Period (1603-1867)
The unwritten Samurai code of conduct, known as Bushido, held that the true warrior must hold that loyalty, courage, veracity, compassion, and honor as important, above all else. An appreciation and respect of life was also imperative, as it added balance to the warrior character.
What we got was a Ronin. So much for Bushido, so much for Samurai...
Predictably que times were a mess, and at the start Samurai brought very little to parties due to having great DPS but no utility. With many flocking to it due it being not only a new (highly requested)job and easily one more simple jobs/ roles to play(well).
I wont pretend that Gunblade has a any long standing lore to denote it's traditional roots as a storied hero who stands on the front lines protecting others, living by a code of honor, strength, and sacrifice. However i will remind all that in order to remotely entice people to Tank, there needs to be some incentive. We were ignored job wise in Stormblood, to do so again isn't only unfair, but incredibly self destructive. People can claim Jobs don't bring people to roles, however as i am a Dark Knight main, i know it's what made a Tank.
Everytime i hear people whine about wanting more DPS jobs i can't help but think, you really don't want to be as epic as this guy?
