I would also consider Regula's gunblade summoning a giant magical blue tiger thing to be a 'ranged' weapon.
Gunblades have some ranged capabilities, yes. But they are largely meant for melee combat with most (not all, but most) ranged attacks being used up close and personal. Basically the equivalent of having a shotgun on your blade.

Being a partial Tank main. The only way I won’t play the Gunblade class is if it ends up being a Healer somehow.
I want Dancer as a healer(/support) SOOOO BAAAAD! I was a DNC in XI but, y'know, no one wanted it =( when other classes could either heal, support, or DPS better. Sad dancer!
That or Mimic DON'TKILLMEPLEASE
Absolutely not. There's plenty of DPS already. Make it a tank, and Dancer as healer.
My hope is that "Gunblade" or "Soldier" actually turns out more like "Judge". In my heart of hearts Thancred was using the weapon but not wearing the armor (armor doesn't really fit his MO) but we as players will get access to that sweet, sweet looking Judge-esque armor. I just want to wrap my Lalafell in the latest Magitek steel and technology - is that so wrong?
... OK I can already see some people making "Popoto in a microwave" jokes. It's fine, still worth it.
His get-up in the Shadowbringers trailer was almost identical to Seifer's attire.
So...here's hoping we have access to it eventually one way or another.
Sincerely thank you for that information - I'll admit I bounced hard off FF VIII (just wasn't my cup of tea although I loved IX) so I'm not familiar with the cast or their garments. Anyhow, considering that and looking at the clothing that doesn't really strike me as "looking" like a tank. I guess this means that Thancred's attire is meant to be representative of the class as a whole, however. It's all speculation at this point but I had just assumed Thancred was wearing a random outfit.
I suppose I'll have to wait and see.
This game needs new tanks/healers There are waaaay too many dps (phsyical and melee in particular) as it is. Yes, agreed, a cool class as a tank would bring a lot of people over to the role.Predictably que times were a mess, and at the start Samurai brought very little to parties due to having great DPS but no utility. With many flocking to it due it being not only a new (highly requested)job and easily one more simple jobs/ roles to play(well).
I wont pretend that Gunblade has a any long standing lore to denote it's traditional roots as a storied hero who stands on the front lines protecting others, living by a code of honor, strength, and sacrifice. However i will remind all that in order to remotely entice people to Tank, there needs to be some incentive. We were ignored job wise in Stormblood, to do so again isn't only unfair, but incredibly self destructive. People can claim Jobs don't bring people to roles, however as i am a Dark Knight main, i know it's what made a Tank.
Everytime i hear people whine about wanting more DPS jobs i can't help but think, you really don't want to be as epic as this guy?
