The fact that someone is still leveling doesn't really excuse being horribly undergeared when vendors sell 60-70 gear.If people don't want to get a tank that is still leveling they should stay out of the leveling roulette.
If the Duty Finder let you queue for that dungeon, you belong in it. If people don't like getting barely geared PUG mates, they should stay out of content like this. If you do join leveling content, you accept that part of the burden is possibly helping someone else master it.
I guess the core issue is that SE decided to not impose reasonable ilvl requirements on all content for whatever reason.
Well let this be a lesson for our perspective tanks out there, besides some of the wrong responses. Come 5.0 please do your best to keep up to date gear as a tank or any class for that matter while leveling.
It’s important to be respectful to your party members not only with harassment but also but showing up with a prepared set of gear to make the run go smooth. Don’t forget you get garunteed pieces from every run and side quest offer HQ gear.
Because something is doable doesn’t always make it right no matter what expierence you may have. Every time you are under geared in leveling content think of Suzuku saying “why do you do this!!” Lol and apologize to your party.
In your experience, you got lucky you didn't get a group who weren't kick happy. Can only wonder what your healer was thinking (if they're like my healer friends, they'd have been swearing up a storm in their head. They would not appreciate you making things obnoxious for them). DPS were also possibly holding back when their enmity dumps weren't available, or weren't very familiar with their Job yet (or weren't SAM and BLM).One, I'm not wrong (all my own experiences point otherwise on this), and two, I really don't care how good or bad it looks, I only care if something is correct or not.
Consider that a triple down if you like.
No, I wasn't losing hate in i270 gear, either. Maybe you would starting in the level 70 dungeon because people can start overgearing it, but in Abania? If you're losing hate at i270, you're just a bad tank; that's got nothing to do with gear.
In my experience with an i270 DRK, we wiped to trash mobs. I easily took hate on SAM shortly after Diversion wore off. To ensure I never would take hate again, I actually had to press buttons every 3-5 seconds and never use my Kenki skills. Alternatively, I could have unequipped everything, but I'm not a bad player (we eventually kicked them. Worst part is they were a Level 70 DRK, so they had no excuse to still be wearing level 60 gear).
I probably should have had it as 65-67, since 68 is the highest level gear you get before Castrum Abania (unless you hit level 70 before entering the dungeon and get your level 70 AF, like I did during SB's release). Regardless, note that I didn't say it's bad to be in level 65-68 gear, just that it's somewhat okay. You'll still take big hits, but at least you won't be an obnoxious burden to your party.
You're bad if you're still wearing level 60 gear in a level 69 dungeon. You're okay if you're wearing 65-68 gear in a 69 dungeon. Perfect if in HQ 68 gear. That look better for you?

Alright, this was actually the tanks skills fault compounding upon the bad gear probably. If he would spam his AoE enmity (Unleash or Abyssal Drain, probably the latter for more efficient AoE damage), I doubt even a samurai or black mage would rip hate THAT easily, if at all.
What he did was probably just assume it'll work like it did for previous levels with him using the skill once or twice and then using the single target attacks.
Considering you're synced down to 290 for Castrum Abania, 272 is basically normal for progression there. You got dealt a bad team. Sorry to hear that.I have mained tank since the release of ARR i know my role well and i'd like to think im a decent tank and person. When i entered Castrum Abania on my lvl 69 drk ilvl 272 as a leveling roulette queue i was nothing but disrespected by the healer and dps. One of the dps was of similar item level as me. We plowed our way to the final boss i tried to just keep to myself so i could get the dungeon done because as any roulette runner knows we do them to get things done for exp and tomes, not to sit around all day.
When we got to the final boss we wiped 3 times because 1. The dps were not killing the hand adds that latched onto the healer and thus the healer could not heal me, and 2. The healer kept getting hit by almost every aoe i saw. Sure i was getting hit a bit hard but 10 ilvl difference between end game gears surely doesn't make it sooo terrible that it warrants harassing me over it and then blaming me for their own shortcomings in terms of doing the mechanics right?
On the 4th try i decided this was going to be my last because there was no point dealing with all this harassment and wasting my time even if it meant taking a df penalty. On this run i noticed our healer started prioritizing dpsing over healing, i was at low health for the majority of the fight, and not because i was getting hit alot or hard, but because the healer would just keep dpsing instead of bringing my hp back up. At this point i told them that to me it looked like they were just doing this to make themself more excuse to harass me over my gear which they did, they started saying how easy i melted, and in a way they kinda admitted it themselves when they said "it was easier keeping our dps going". I guess to summarize it all up it just feels like that because they all kept dying and failing to do mechanics they were using my gear level as a scapegoat to blame me instead of just admitting that they were not trying.
I am a veteran of this game and i know how to play and whats fair and whats not IN MY OWN OPINION, but i guess i am coming to the forums to look for a little reassurance and get other peoples views on this situation as well.
I appreciate any input and opinions anyone has as long as they read the entirety of this post and know the context before saying anything, thank you.
To take this into further perspective, Castrum Abania is a Leveling Dungeon. The actual 70 dungeons start the next dungeon after that,
With Ala Mhigo, Kugane Castle, and The Temple of the Fist requiring minimum 280.
While Castrum Abania doesn't have a minimum entry, if it did, it certainly would not be higher than 270.

Guess I belong!
I'll just equip head to toe level 1 unglamoured glamour gear and que "Leveling" until something changes.
Clearly SE thinks I can clear the content with that gear since there's no min ilevel requirement.
"Why are you bringing your Atma into Bardem's, ya Tryhard. Bring your Grand Company weapon next time instead."
SE Logic:
I need to be at least i230 strong to que into Baelsar's Wall but I can be naked in Sirensong Sea because the mobs in a level 61 dungeon are weaker than those in the level 60.
Obviously.
There is just ...so much wrong with this. Healers are going to be spending most of their time healing an undergeared tank - going in like this is just putting additional stress on healers and pressures DPS to push hard before the healer runs out of mana on every pull. Can healing be done for a 272 tank? Absolutely. But going in underleveled strains the rest of your party - I don't understand why the OP was so undergeared when the other dungeons give gear upgrades for free. Realistically speaking, Bardam's is where you should be starting to upgrade your Shire gear.Considering you're synced down to 290 for Castrum Abania, 272 is basically normal for progression there. If HoH was used for leveling...why did they stop at 69? Why not go all the way to 70 so they could unlock their final job quest and get free 290 gear?
