Is it wrong to run Castrum Abania as a tank at ilvl 272

I dont actually agree wtih this. If yo uwere 260, I could see that, but 272 isnt in the range of "LoL-hard carry me!" It's not ideal, but yes, you could do stuff at that level without a hard carry as a tank. The tank busters in there will not outright murder you through cool downs and grit. Considering the actions of both the DPS and Healer, (and my own experiences, albeit they are biased), the OP couldve stayed in Grit the entire time, used proper CD use, and with decent use of things from the DPS and healers, it wouldve been fine.

You're making the mistake of only looking at the tank. If the rest of the group has average players with average gear, then they're likely to run into some issues that would be completely avoidable if the tank had better gear. Unless they take things slow and steady...but even that is a carry in itself because the team is deliberately slowing down due to the tank's easily remedied bad gear.

Yeah, the OP couldve been more geared. But Im more in the aspects that theres a LOT of people who wont even use skills like Feint or Palisade (or aggro dumps - I see that a lot too) cause "Youre the tank, you handle this."

I 100% agree that skill usage is also a problem but it's quite different. Gear is extremely easy to fix especially while you're lvling. Quests throw gear at you, dungeons give you a piece of gear when you finish them, and you can buy decent gear from npcs. The game makes it very easy to have proper gear while lvling.

You don't need any special class knowledge or a massive pile of gil to sort out your ilvl while lvling. Any idiot can do it and it can be fixed in a matter of minutes, so really there's no good excuse not to.

All content has requirements, even casual content. Just because something is casual doesn't make it okay to be lazy at the expense of others. Casual just means the requirements aren't high. Not that the requirements are merely a serving suggestion that can be ignored.

I completely agree that we should all be nicer to each other but part of that is being respectful to one another...and knowingly queuing while having bad gear that you know you can easily fix is disrespectful. That's basically saying "I know I can easily be better prepared but I cba".

OP said he was a veteran from ARR and claims to know the tank role really well. He's well past the point of the allowances that can be made for a novice.

While I don't condone the active harassment in party chat, I would have a) been a disgruntled party member that ate the shit and ran with it or b) kicked.

The only thing you can really control is your reaction to it and right now it’s not really looking like we are giving the best the forums have available. Another thing though is that you really shouldn’t be so quick to dogpile people. Regardless of opinion it’s just not cool, this is a diverse and inclusive community and we have to remember to be patient with each other. Don’t worry I’ll make sure to set a positive example for people.

No. 272 is too low for a lvl69 dungeon as a tank. You are being a burden to your healer and your group. The same can be said for all other roles.

Especially as DRK since you dont have TBN until 70. You will be able to get by with cooldowns, slow pulls and a good healer perhaps.

But to answer your question OP yes it is wrong to run Castrum Abania as ilvl 272, but thats just my opinion.
