A competitive PVE which does not involve pvp could be interesting. like 2 teams race to complete some kind of dungeon.

I played Aion and the open-world PvP is what made me quit once I was out of the areas where you could zone to the non-PvP area. (can't remember the name right now) People were just major JERKS. Ganking people simply trying to quest or get to a dungeon instance or even just gather. As long as they don't tie really neat rewards to it (looking at YOU pvp hairstyle) and keep it to its own instance, then go for it. I just won't have any part in it, thank you.
But why shouldn't PvP have any neat rewards? Almost everything else in this game has exclusive neat rewards. Why should the PvP community miss out?
IMO keep pvp out of pve content. I don't like PVP and hate having to run it to get emotes, hairstyles, and some of the better looking gear.
Alterac Valley, Warsong Gulch... Anything with a cohesive, not-half-assed aesthetic on basically flat and barren/planked/tiled ground I'd probably be a fan of. That's assuming we can fix the netcode and the disgustingly oversimple gameplay itself, though.Hmm, well if it was something like old school Alterac Valley in WoW I'd give it a try. Can't say I'm a fan of PvP in FFXIV though. I only dabble at it occasionally here. It just doesn't really feel right no matter what class I play. LoL and other games soothe the PvP itch for me better.
I agree with your comment if PvP was big in this game I wouldn't be here. As for the PvP rewards I do the frontline roulette once a day for the guaranteed 1k+ wolf marks per day. Not so bad but once the Datacenter split happens who knows if it still be worth doing.
I used to PvP extensively, and a few games, exclusively. For FFXIV, I can say I honestly don't enjoy the PvP side of the game. None of the classes have any real strong aspect in PvP on their own and the game entirely focuses on team play, even in PvP. Not to mention both the PvP and PvE balances for each class are different, making PvEvP unlikely. I can't see FFXIV's ping issues exactly helping, either.
I really don't get why people are so aggressively against open world PvP. It can be opt-in just like many other features. This game has everything is stuck in its own separate box to not shake the main game. Hunts are open world, opt-in and give both cosmetic and useful rewards (mount speed boosts, xp, materia, tomes). PvP could be like that, and the same goes for other types of content.

OP - When Aion was good? You mean when lvl40’s where repeatedly suiciding so they didn’t level up out of the lower areas and could continue to Gank the lvl 20 players?
Yes that was most enjoyable for people, who displayed their love of this - by leaving in numbers.
PVP can have neat rewards; but tying universal rewards to it when the very vast majority of the playerbase dislike PvP to different extents to try and convince them to come play it for the couple hours it'll take to get it and then never touch it again is not the way to go about it. You quickly build negative associations with such tactics.
Hairstyles are an almost universal reward that the vast majority are going to desire; you're simply inviting complaints and annoyance on the vast majority of the playerbase by using them for the sole purpose to get people to play content they'd never touch in its current iteration. While I dislike the acquisition of them; the Feast has great PvP themed rewards that the game should exercise more often outside of the feast rankings themselves. Hell, I'd play PvP a ton more if it were possible to obtain some of the old feast rewards.
Beyond that, it barely makes thematic sense to me. You've got an entire section of the game built around the concept of battle and defeating your fellow player, and something you can buy is a hairstyle? PvP rewards should scream battle. Weapons, armors, war/battle themed mounts; minions like the cheerleader even make sense.
