Disciples of the hand and land are just fancy descriptions for crafting professions. They are not the equivalent of a normal class or job in ffxiv or any other MMORPG for that matter and should not be compared equally as such to combat jobs/classes. So I would say, No, FFXIV does not already have "Solo" jobs and comparing a disciple of the hand/land to blue mage is Apples to Oranges.

Maybe you should start by "how many MMO let you freely change class without forcing you to do the whole game back from the start anytime you want to experience something different unless you want to pay a boost ?"

I personally think its kind of silly to unsub over the BLU thing. It honestly comes across as people finding an excuse or reason for their already disdain at the game. Like if you hate the game in its entirety as it were, why play it. It just doesnt feel genuine that this one thing is enough to get people whove been playing the game for a while to just up and quit unless they were already dissatisfied and were just looking for a good enough reason to hop off the train.

That being said, yeah the OP is pretty much right. You dont like it, stop subbing the game. I honestly do not think itll actually dent SE all that much as I dont believe we will see such a huge exodus thatll make SE rethink things, but if you dont like the way they run things, dont pay for their services. It's plainly that simple. All the petitions and outrage on reddit and here is kind of moot if at the end of the day youre gonna be like "Yeah, SE sucks and I hate everything about them, but Im not gonna unsub." Honestly, its more likely people are at worst somewhat bummed, but still like SE and FFXIV. Theyre just getting ahead of their own feet and getting themselves worked up more than they should.

For those who are unsubbing, Ill give you a thumbs-up for having conviction. Hope you find some other game that is more worth your time. But once you decide to unsub, just call it quits with the outrage. Youve already decided your course of action. Arguing on the forums non stop about how terrible SE is being about this is silly.

I'd understand the outrage more if Blue Mage was one of the two 5.0 classes, but they give it to us in 4.5 as patch content we've never seen before.

We are only getting two in 5.0? SE said multiple so let's hope it's more than just two new ones.

The general expectation among people was BLU, Dancer (DNC?), and Gunblade (GBD?). If BLU is in 4.5, then the remaining two would the DNC and GBD - healer and tank respectively. However I dont know if Dancer was ever confirmed, and Gunblade is technically not confirmed but so heavily hinted at, its probably gonna be the case? I have to look at FF again to see if they said specifically which jobs.

If they add more, Id be ok with that though.

If we are going to compare aspects of FFXIV to other MMOs id like to ask, "How many other MMOs reduce a class or a job into a minigame? How many other MMORPG player populations want future classes/jobs to be "Limited" like blue mage?" I am willing to place money down and say not many.
People play mmorpgs for a lot of reasons. To pass the time, get more content than any offline game, to talk with buddies, to play the economy fantasy, to cyber, to group up, to fill time between the next big offline game, and some even like to solo. Depends on what you mean by minigame? Gold Saucer whack a mole is a mini game, I would not classify doing a job native dungeon as mini game unless it was 2D and played like Streets of Rage.

As for the limited thing. This game has rules for what is acceptable in the duty finder. If a niche of players wants overpowered jobs that can do multiple roles better than your standard trinity job, wants to have a sense of horizontal progression in a strictly vertical game, wants to have an element of RNG in gameplay. I don't think it would fly releasing a job like that and not affect balance if you made it playable in all content. Now if you wanna say SE should not make Blue the way they are then that is each person's wish. I want ilevel to go bye bye, I want more job customization, I want a more dangerous open world, I want a merit point type system.

But frankly none of that is ever going to happen.

One of those things is already diminished for full premade parties...two others could very well be "limited" features that are deactivated in matchmaking too. By introducing this "Limited job", SE create a breach in the game's focus on random grouping that doesn't support choices. In that breach, a whole new type of character building and progression could emerge !

They could have put a "limited job mode" option in the DF settings for people that want the multi role/OP stuff that has unique rules. There is no need for blue to remain this way. It's too late to change it now or probably before 5.1 but they should change it by the time 6.0 is ready.

Character building and progression... so long as you play an MMO as a single-player game.

    Hmmm.

Hrrrmmmm. Amid this, MMO is it still?
