There is no compromise to the problem. Its either they keep it as is or make it a bland copy and paste job where learn your monster skills in a solo instance with a predefined monster.I'm not active on the forums, but this has been bothering me ever since I came back from fanfest. I have been to every Fanfest, and I can say solidly that this is the only one I've come back from more disappointed than excited.
I'm worried about what the Limited Job System says. Because to me it says they're not willing to try and find the compromise between a Job's legacy and its performance and balance in the mechanics of Final Fantasy XIV anymore.
That they'd rather just limit it and give us their replay of an old horse's tricks rather than produce something that might not work.
I was torn at that very BLU announcement at the Live Letter and all its details, between simply standing up and leaving, or trying to do something about it. I chose to sit there, and start drafting mechanical concepts for a mechanically compatible Blue Mage.
To be clear, I love BLU. I love the visual design. I love the learning of abilities, both from the past and the concept now, and the Carnivale seems like a great idea I wish there was some form of for every job. But that's the catch. This is only for BLU, and the tradeoff is it becoming infinitely more difficult if not impossible for them to participate in a majority of the content that will be enthralling the community.
I don't want the Limited Job System to become something that stifles the ability for players to work with each other. I don't want my, or anyone else's favorite job to become a single player sideshow in a very blatantly multiplayer game.
Yep because there is no way to make blue mage work in the game and still keep this learning method. No way to give blue mage an unique mechanic the job fun to play. You understand that the blue spells are going to be reskinned versions of spells already in the game besides in the Carnival right?
Compromise:
Learn the BLU skills this way they've introduced, and once you have them all you can do a quest to unlock a set of BLU actions usable in the DF, that way you have your special snowflake job than can be silly in the overworld/carnival/premades AND a balanced Blu for DF.
Savage Completion Rate ~5%+ of active players. Community: "Ugh stop catering to savage"
Ultimate Completion Rate ~1% of active players. Community: "Ugh stop catering to the hardcore raiders"
Frontline/ Rival Wings/ Hidden Gorge Mount Aquisition ~0.05-1% of active players. Community: "Ugh PVP is so dead in this game, they should stop investing in it"
Blue Mage Morbol Mount Aquisition ~0.01% of active players. Community: "WoW bLuE mAgE iS sO fUn AnD aCtIvE i CaN't WaIt FoR mOrE lImItEd JoBs"

I would love to see BLU incorporated in DF / End Game Content; I made a post not too long ago on a way they could potentially do: of course I'm no DEV so I wouldn't know how "complicated" it would be to balance a Set Blue Magic (24) List that's composed of "Job Quest Spells" and a Pre-Learned base of Blue Magic designed for the DF / End Game Content.

Regardless, I would love to see it added, but also keep its state to where you can Solo Outside content to learn spells and such, and utilize the new "Trust" NPCs being added in the new Expansion.

I am also not really sure why people are against Blue being solo and duty job. Heck those that only want to use the "true" blue (and what is the true blue anyway) could still just do the solo content which most of us dont want to be gone. Heck I find the blue duty interesting and if its fun would want more like this for other jobs in the future. Giving blue restricted skills in dungeons (like PVP does with the hotbars) would just be a great way to at least run current stuff with it, even if it might never be part of the "meta". So imo both sides would have been happy.
I just wonder how some people that really wanted Viera would feel, if they suddenly showed us that we do get something called Viera but instead of having their special feets, they have normal ones and are kinda just tall humans with bunny ears. I mean Yoshida once stated that Viera would be complicated because of their feet so since people still wanted it they should be happy even with such a implementation right? (Just to be sure thats a bit sarcastic)
Honestly if they had went out and called it a minigame from the start without making it look like the next real job and then hyping it up with that cosplay and only afterwards telling us all the limitiation it would have probably be accepted more. Call it limited job, or The Collector, or something like that without ever calling it a blue mage. Tell us that first we can collect monster skills and have a duty to use that and maybe later we can get monsters themselves and a duty. This way its truly just a new kind of minigame and people would not have their favorite job as a name for that.
@Square Enix: I hope that you update all the hunt monsters and make them immune to death because otherwise that part of the overworld content can become much more toxic really fast...being able to one shot S monsters would be horrible.

Correct. This solution will take a great deal of time, but it is the ideal end-point.Compromise:

I say keep it the way it is now. And slowly balance it with updates and then allow it for group play come 6.0, that will give them plenty of time to see what moves need to be nerfed, buffed, etc.
I am glad they went this route other than making a carbon copy of all the other casters.
Most blu spells are already carbon copies of other casters' spells just with different skins. The Carnival is where the get to play by different rules. Also there are ways to make blu function in the game as a whole that would make them feel different to other casters.

Calling this concept something else other than blue mage would have been fine IF they did not use the "well there is already a job that learns enemy abilities like a blue mage so why are you asking for blue mage still?" excuse to not add a full blu.[Made the quote shorter to have less text.]

I don't agree with this choice for a solo job. Beast Tamer would have been the go to choice for this giving it a Pokemon style game.
Blue Mage could have worked but would have to limit what spells you could learn and develop a combat gimmick to make it stand out, but if could have worked.

I'm curious. I don't speak Japanese, so I'm wondering what they are saying about BLU. Are they as divided as our community? Are they more accepting? Even more disappointed? Anyone know?
