Because it still follows the same core system that has been in place since ARR with all jobs being accessible to all features in the game.

How is making a caster job that uses monster learned abilities/spells to be used on enemies with a unique mechanic every job SE has made in the past considered "generic"? Is RDM generic on that basis? Or how bout your main WHM since it casts healing spells just like AST/SCH, is that generic?
Generic as in "here are your skills, you use them in a specific order for top dps." To have BLU like that it may as well be a black mage or red mage with a blue coat of paint on it. It wouldn't stand out.

The only game where BLU was about equipping the right skills and what not was FFXI. Every other iteration once you learned all your spells you just had a black mage with Monster Skill named abilities.

So then...why does everyone want blue mage so badly? Makes no sense.

I didn't actually see the fanfest or live letter but I heard that the masked carnival will have things like older FF games. Earth attacks don't work on flying monsters and elements actually matter. That is what I want to see. That will make BLU stand out from everyone else in the game. If they kept that in the entire game, and didn't make it a black mage but blue, I'd really like playing as it.

I want a job that stands out. BLU as players want it, won't.

Except what use is Blue mage once you've learned all the spells and done all the carnival challenges? Nothing. It'll sit on the shelf till SE decides to update it. Which hopefully for the people looking forward to it will be more often than they update egi glamours.

By that thinking, what use is any job once you've hit max level, got your gear and killed all available content? BLU is what you make of it just like any other job. Do what you enjoy doing as a BLU mage even after you've gotten all 49 skills and played the Masked Carnival. If someone enjoys the carnival challenges and likes doing them over and over, how is that different than someone enjoying Omega and doing that over and over, despite having nothing to gain gear wise and only that you enjoy doing so for whatever reason while waiting on the next raid tier for new challenges/gear? I suppose you could say the enjoyment of playing with your friends or the continued challenge, but that is no different than the enjoyment someone would get if they enjoy the carnival and its challenges.

When I get a job to cap I do roulettes to cap tomes, I do the Omega normal raids to get gear for my alt jobs. I do 24 mans to either get gear for an alt job or just to get the token every week. None of this I can do on BLU cause it's locked to lvl 50 and can't use roulettes.

So once you've effectively completed all the current content available to your jobs and got all the gear you'd need, would you keep doing the content? If so, why can't someone who enjoys the BLU content do the same? I can't argue for or against rewards for Masked Carnival as that information isn't available so there isn't much to compare against tomes and tokens, but if the Carnival offered its own form of rewards that you could continually work on similar to tomes, would that change your mind in anyway or would it have to strictly be tomes/token rewards that go towards your other jobs?
