I hope, against all odds, that we get two Magitek classes in 5.0.

    Give me Judge and Soldier.

Judge being a Hammer/Club/Gunhammer wielding tank. Their gimmick can be the ability to pass "laws" that have different effects depending on if they're in tank stance or DPS stance.

Soldier being a Gunblade wielding DPS. Let it be a DPS that shares armor with Dragoon and make it like an inverse of Red Mage, where they're more melee oriented, but have a big burst phase revolving around them creating distance and using some ranged attacks, before closing in for a big finisher.

If there were a reverse-RDM that had to be at range for a portion of the rotation, it would be more devastated by mechanics than RDM is. RDM at least can live in melee range, and the only thing they can't do on smaller arenas is Displace.

A job that was melee-default and range-burst would need to be able to perform their burst phase actions at melee range without significant penalty, or they would be severely hampered by small arenas, broken railings, and deathfloors, and if they can perform the entire rotation at melee or mid-range, then why bother moving away at all?

You are right, bard and all the other ranged need to be given minimum distance from the boss requirements too then.

Perhaps instead of being unable to perform it, they instead take a potency hit when peforming that part of their rotation in melee range (5 yalms). So an attack would do 340 potency between 5 and 12 yalms, but 290 outside of that range.
And any backsteps would be small, like 5-yalms. Not the giant ones that RDM/DRG/SAM have.

Unfortunately, 'Judge' is basically already in the game, it's what the GMs are (their exclusive armour is literally called 'Judge' armour and is unattainable by players)... not to mention the FFTA version just wouldn't make any sense here as their whole sthick was intertwined with FFTA's battle system. It just wouldn't fit here.

You could also look on the Garlean Legatee like Zenos and Gaius as 'Judges', as they have enormous political and military clout in the Empire, similar to the Judges in FFXII.

The leaks have suggested that Gunblader will be a tank and Dancer will be a healer, so far those leaks have been spot on about everything.

Tanking with a Gunblade feels odd, but multiple enemies in FFXIV have done it already, so I guess?

Unless we're really going to exhaust the region so quickly or there are 3+ compelling possibilities, I'd rather pace it out. Though, I do like some potential symmetries/reflections/antithesis where they don't constrain the unique design of each...

Honestly, the whole idea of "solo duties" and how awesome what they'd offer -- done well -- would be to the surrounding game still has me imagining MCHs piloting silent drones through dangerous open-dungeon-esque cityscapes to check for patrols and entrance ways, setting breach charges, and so forth. Their tech's barely been touched on and seems like it'd be a perfect recipient of certain Garlean aspects.

I do really want a Soldier though. I'd prefer it to be a tanky DPS over an actual tank (ideally, with no such "Role" attached directly), but as long as we have to chop off as many appendages as it takes to stuff it in one role box or the other, I guess either will do. Ideally with just a big damn blade, though certain takes on the gunblade... could... maybe work?

A judge with dual swords seems an aesthetic more distinct from Warrior or Dark Knight, and would be my preferred tank prospect over Soldier, though I'm not gun-ho about it.

I don't want Gunhammers. Haters gonna hate, and I hate gunhammers and gunlances.

I agree, i'd prefer a gun lance as a DPS as opposed to a tank. Dual sword tank sounds really really really cool and im excited just thinking about it and I hope we some more BLU fever leaks soon.

I also agree with no hammers, SE imo doesn't have the chops to pull it off. Hammers / maces are VERY boring in terms of weapon design and considering how much ugly axes they reveal, I dont have much faith in them if im honest. I'd refer something like a sword whip like Ivy from Soul Caliber with a pull mechanic instead of a throw object aggro button. Addition SE seems to be alot better with Swords, lances and bows over other weapon types.
